Review: ... is thinking about purchasing this calculator it is an EXCELLENT and POWERFUL instrument that would aid you in studies - *****DISCLAIMER TO FUTURE/CURRENT BUYERS***** Everyone who is thinking about purchasing this calculator it is an EXCELLENT and POWERFUL instrument that would aid you in studies, programming or other general uses however please note that this calculation DOES NOT HAVE NATURAL DISPLAY SETTINGS, Natural display settings are settings that allow you to keep equations in their basic forms e.g. 1/3 would be converted to 0.333333333 or surds would come up as decimal. If you want a calculator with these setting then you must purchase the FX-9860GII: Casio FX9860GII - CASIO FX9860GII GRAPHIC CALCULATOR This is not stated within the item description so I wish for this to be resolved. Regardless of this minor issue I decided to give this 5* because it truly is a fantastic calculator and if you don't mind that this calculator isn't natural display then this calculator is cheap and convenient.
Review: Good graphics calculator, waiting for price-fall - Bought this for my son who gave his (same model) a shower from his water bottle at the gym; drying out did not revive it. An all this just a month before his exams, when it wouldn't have mattered in the same way. So had litttle option but to buy the same as he was used to. I don't use this but have used calcs since the Sinclair Cambridge and HP29 (brill!); I'm told it works fine, and it appears up to usual Casio standard. My personal view is I'm over a barrel because it's a school spec graphics calc, and price seems to be held high, for what it actually offers. The school has to loan out these units to people who can't buy it, and I'm not surprised, at two ponies or bullseye! Blimey! I know it's more useful than a phone(!), but.... I ha[ppen to have an advert for the Sinclair, something like £17 in kit form in 1974. And the HP was astronomical (a months pay), when I was free, - and daft. In Staples now, I spotted a simple four-function calculator for £2.20 that hooks into a ring binder. In real terms then, I suppose we've been spoiled by the technology being jacked up, and the price lowering, of these things. However, I tend to think that this unit single-mindedly bucks that trend, and is really being overvalued because so many schools tote it as 'the required equipment'. I'd better hang up my sliderule now! Wish kids (teachers?) would learn on generic scientific calculators, a tenner, job done!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Could this calculator do indefinite differentiation and integral?**
A: Yes, but first you need to upgrade the o.s. to fx9860gii and add two apps: Algebra and CAS, downloadable from tiplanet (a well know site in French, largely devoted to Casio calculators).

CAS is brilliant for differentiation; coping with quite complicated functions, e.g. x^x. CAS also expands brackets, coping with binomial expansions, where n is a positive integer, but doesn't recognise complex numbers, so it can't cope with simplifying (z-(3+4i))(z-(3-4i)) correctly. It can do indefinite integration but only very simple integrals based on x^n.

Algebra also does differentiation using symbolic logic, but not as well as CAS. It is, however, much better at indefinite integration and can cope with many integrals set where they are soluble 'by parts'. It also expands and simplifies algebraic expressions and recognizes complex numbers. As an example, (Z-(3+4i))(z-(3-4i)) is simplified correctly, to z^2 - 6z + 25, using the 'Simplification' option. It also has a number of high-end features like Taylor Series, Curl etc.

Do be mindful that this isn't the best calculator to use for calculus. The T.I. NSpire CAS, for example, leaves it for dead in this respect. It can give the correct integral, using symbolic logic, in any situation applicable to a-level maths and further maths. Furthermore, it'll give exact answers in terms of e, ln, pi, etc to definite integrals and also for differentiation. The fx9860gii o.s. will do this only occasionally!

**Q: IS there warranty for this product, if so, how long is it ? Thanks**
A: If you buy it from Casioonline.co.uk, you get three years warranty

**Q: This allowed in Aqa As (GCE) exams?**
A: The FX9750GII is approved up to A Level standards.

**Q: Is this calculator allowed for the new curriculum aqa exams?**
A: Yes; JQC approved for all GCSE and A-level exam boards.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Brilliant
*by I***N on 18 June 2011*

I bought this calculator for my A levels. It's incredibly useful, especially in C2 and C3, and helped me tremendously. I used it mainly for drawing graphs and checking my answers for differentiation/integration questions. It also allows you to solve equations in seconds saving valuable time in exams. The only problem is that it has the old style display format, so you don't get exact answers. This is problematic, as it becomes very difficult to enter complicated functions involving fractions and irrational numbers. However, this can be overcome by upgrading the OS. Although this sounds complicated, it's actually very easy and takes a couple of minutes. There are multiple video guides on how to achieve this on Youtube and plenty of tutorials on the internet.
