Love!
I absolutely love this book! It has so much great information in it and it's so easy to read, I got some annotation stickers and I have just been going crazy with all the great information. I put the pink stickers on information that I would like to have saved and I use the blue stickers for information that I want to tell my husband. I grew up with my mom reading what to expect when you're expecting, so I'm very excited to be able to read this book before expecting! Chock full of information and helpful tips. You can't go wrong with this book, definitely recommendation for anyone TTC.

More in-depth in coverage when compared to similar books.
While this book should have had citations for its opinions and doesn't come with the glistening stamp of approval of a ton of doctors, it does do an in-depth walkthrough of the material well. I would still have preferred citations, but that seems to be a problem in the pregnancy-book industry. So, I'll put that aside for now.Pros:1. It is a really in-depth walk through of the same material covered at only a high level in the books I bought to compare it with. The all-in-one books don't hold a candle to this book's depth, but you are only getting the pre-pregnancy perspective. So, this is expected.2. It doesn't pretend to be super scientific and is more like a chat with a well-informed midwife. The authors opinions are general and fun. However, the style doesn't make me think it was meant to be published in a scientific journal, if you know what I mean. So, I give it more leniency than I would some other books that I've purchased.3. I enjoyed reading it.Cons:1. What is it with nonfiction writers in the medical field forgetting to cite their material? Readers deserve to have the sources you used to form your opinions and advice! Please do better in the future.2. There aren't diagrams or other visual means of communicating the data. Although the data is given well in text form. Some of the data would have been better conveyed with visuals. An example would be the viscosity of CM visualized at different stages or a nice pie chart of the full cycle to go along with the descriptions.3. The 8 empty charts in the back are really complex, which is great. However, it would be nice to have a more simplified version for ladies not taking all of those tests/measurements and just focusing on the high level details marking the different phases of the cycle. As it stands, I'll probably never have cause to use the charts provided. So, maybe do 4 detailed ones, and 4 simplified ones in your next edition.Summary: An in-depth and levity filled walkthrough of pre-pregnancy experiences that really should have cited their claims. :)

Learned a whole lot more than expected
I thought I was educated, but I learned so much from this book. I found this book while looking for What to Expect Your Child's First Year, which I wanted to read because I work with infants and its always nice to get more information from different places. when books are in a series, I like to read all of them, so I started with this one and will continue through the child's second year book. I didn't know what to expect from this book starting out, but I am glad I read it. I have no children and was interested in what women go through when they are pregnant, I never even thought about the before pregnancy process. The parts about hormonal changes and how to recognize them in your own body set of a light bulb above my head. I read sections out of order and reread some, Overall I really enjoyed this book. It also served as an introduction and I took some of the topics and conducted further research.

Are you worried? Not enough!
Okay, so to be fair, this is a manual and if you need a manual, it's great. It's not really meant for a one sitting read-through. In this respect, the prose is easy to read, the digital text organized with helpful in-text links, and it's pretty short and sweet. A doctor could probably tell you everything in this book, but there may be things you wouldn't think to bring up that'll help you prepare better than you would otherwise. That said, if, like me, you were thinking, "Maybe I'm just not sure about getting pregnant because I need to educate myself!" and plan to read it in one sitting, don't get this book. Being a manual, this guidebook will cover all the good things, but also ALL THE HORRIBLE THINGS THAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG, and in one sitting it's exhausting and nerve-wrecking. If you're in 100%, you might feel assured having all these helpful checklists and reminders and vocabulary lists, but, if not, you might end up feeling even less ready and a bit unnerved.
