Review: a pantry staple - My husband and I have loved this product for many years now and are happy to be able to buy it in bulk from desertcart. We have either this or the lentils, along with the spinach they make, and Basmati rice and a good quality plain yogurt, as a quick, filling, nutritious, and tasty meal, about every other week. They've really mastered the spice combination in both this and the lentils. The beans are always fully cooked. I believe there is quite a bit of cream or other fattening substance in many of these products, making them quite filling, yet they are not horrifically caloric. We actually prefer these three items - the kidney beans, lentils, and spinach from this brand - over most Indian restaurant dishes we've had. Super reliable and delish.

This is a fantastic product for people who are watching what they eat, cutting calories, or just enjoy a simple, savory heat-and-serve meal. I have this automatically sent to me, six packages at a time, because in our household, we eat it regularly. Simple ingredient list is water, tomatoes, onions, red kidney beans, sunflower oil, garlic, spices, salt, and ginger. It has only 120 calories per serving (2.5 per package), 5 grams of protein, 3.5 grams of vegetable fat (from sunflower seed oil), and 10% of your daily intake of iron. It has no animal fats which means it has no cholesterol. On my eating plan (Weight Watchers), it works well, even if I have the entire package for a meal -- 300 calories and lots of energy from the complex carbs and 10 grams of protein. I can go four or five hours, easily, on this energy without feeling ravenous or lethargic before my appetite returns. Because of the wonderful flavors and richness, I feel satisfied without feeling bloated or slowed down. It is "delicately spiced." Perfect for me. I love that it is made in India. I feel like I am eating like royalty, savoring the delights of other nations which is a true indulgence and luxury. I savor the experience, not just the meal itself.
