Good, solid glass weights for keeping your solids under fermentation and preventing mold. And they're hard to break (I've dropped them a couple times - no cracks or chips)

These glass fermentation weights work perfectly. They keep everything submerged, are easy to clean, and feel very sturdy. Great addition for anyone fermenting at home!

These pickle weights perform perfectly. I have occasionally turned them upside down to fit in the jar when a couple of pickles are a little too high. I will purchase more of them. The only criticism I have is of the small tongs included. Don't misunderstand, the tongs are nice and I use them for many things - but not for lifting the slippery glass weights out of the jars. After dropping the weights a few times, I switched to some old scissor type metal tongs that grasp the weights securely.

They fit inside the mouth of the jar with sufficient space to place the weight safely in the jar without breaking. They have a bumpy surface and the knob at the top truly a knob so I had no trouble placing them with fingers. I also had no trouble removing them using the included tongs. There was no slipping, I could pull them out of the jar run them under clean water and put them back in the jar all using the tongs. I’m glad I bought these. I was thinking about getting a four pack but, this allows me to ferment more at the same time them and i have extras in case I break one. Usage tip: cut large pieces and stuff the jars so the weight sits at the neck of the jar. This is because the weight is less wide than the body of the jar. If the weight sits too low in the jar or your pieces are too small, they will float up around the edges and spoil at the top.

These work. You don't need them, but they do make things easier and its easier to avoid using any kind of plastic wrap and you don't have to go searching for the perfect glass jar or plate to use for a weight. You just plop that glass weight on the top of your new sauerkraut or such, and wow, these are really heavy and they do a good job of pushing the kraut down to be covered by liquid. The set also comes with a small bottle brush and a small pair of rubbery tipped tongs. Forget the tongs, it is easier to grab these glass weights with your clean fingers. If you have a nice straight jar the tongs would probably work, but they just made it tougher on a hipped jar I used where the weight twisted around and got stuck when I tried to use the tongs and I ended up using my fingers anyway. The small bottle brush is nice but completely unnecessary for cleaning these weights. I used it for cleaning my flower vase with the narrow neck.
