Can you see through it and can air pass through it?

I would say no. We used it for matting to frame a picture.

How do you secure the edges on areas that are flat and not recessed??

My armoire had a little recess edge so I cut it with scissors to fit then used glue & tried my best the stretch it taught then clamp it. I soaked it to get it to lay flat

IS this Item able to be glued to a flat surface? Do you need to tack the edges with some wood trim?

It would look really good if you do it that way
