I grew up with this. Only kind I buy for fish and chips. Malt vinegar has a milder flavour than regular vinegar and doesn't overpower the fish (unless you use too much). However, this bottle used to have a removable top to allow for refilling. This looked like it should in the picture, it did not. Perhaps it should state this in the description. Someone in the reviews said theirs did have a removable top, mine didn't. This was the reason I gave it a five rating.

Over priced and low on flavor.

This is the quintessential malt vinegar. It has that distinctive, deep amber colour and a sharp, tangy bite that isn't overly acidic. Because it is matured in vats, it carries a richer, more mellow malt flavour compared to cheaper supermarket alternatives. The 300g plastic bottle is practical for everyday use. Unlike the glass versions, it’s lightweight and won't shatter if dropped. The flip-top cap features a small nozzle that allows for a controlled drizzle, preventing you from accidentally drowning your food. It’s a convenient size that fits easily in a standard cupboard door. Regarding performance, the taste is bold and authentic, providing the perfect chip shop acidity to fried food. It also works excellently for home pickling or as a base for dark marinades. The texture is thin and consistent, exactly what you would expect from a high-quality brewed vinegar. If you want the classic British chippy taste at home, this is it. The plastic bottle makes it a safer, more user-friendly choice for the dinner table.

Top is fixed so you cannot refill this. This is disgraceful by Sarsons. I would be happy to purchase a 5ltr of Sarsons vinegar if this was the case. Heres an idea Sarsons, produce a screw top bottle as you used to and sell that with a 5ltr refill, or keep filling landfill or keeping recycling centres busy, ridiculous and unnecessary.

This is a great traditional vinegar, which always reminds me of going to a good fish and chip shop. A few months ago I bought an 'artisan vinegar' for several times the price of Sarsons. I wrote in my review of that, that it was inferior to good traditional vinegar like this. I shall not be repeating my mistake in spending over the odds on an 'artisan' product!
