Alex and Poppy! the people I felt closest to myself! I related to them on different aspects. Alex in his silence and poppy in her turmoil.. I never felt so seen by a book, Their banter?? Their yearning?? Chef's Kiss!! I loved everything about this book! No not because it is popular but it made me maybe.. maybe someone is out there who can love me the way Alex loves Poppy and Poppy loves Alex! Emily henry spoke to me in a language I didn’t know I need! I just picked this up so I can watch the movie but it’s the best thing I did! Review: A lot of more than ‘love story of two opposite people’ - So there’s this theory that opposites attract but no one actually portrays it as beautifully as Emily Henry has portrayed in this book. The main characters, Alex and Poppy were certainly poles apart but the way they simply could understand each other without speaking a word, the way they found comfort, warmth, and safety in each other was really beautiful. And yes, it opened my eyes to the perspective that how someone who is absolutely different from you can become exactly the person you were looking for all this time. The theme is usual, predictable yet felt surprisingly new at times. The book talked in depth about the childhood traumas and the need healed to feel things deeply, without any fear. The storyline had its ups and downs, there were times when I was hooked to the book and then there were times when I was just rushing it through. But altogether it was a good read.

A lot of more than ‘love story of two opposite people’

a warm, cute romance between two polar opposite bff's
There isn't much to say about this book other than that it was a fun read. Though I think Beach Read was a better book than this one, I did like certain things about it. Like how Poppy and Alex's friendship was and how Poppy's childhood experiences held her back and how she figured it all out. Although I did get bored at one point and felt like I just needed to skip to the point where it all makes sense again. So that's why I'll give it a 3.5. I loved Emily's writing in Beach Read and somehow, I didn't quite like it as much in this book. But if you like best friends to lovers, lots of pining and vacation vibes, this book has it!

Perfect beach read
“I don't think I knew I was lonely until I met you.” Emily Henry People We Meet on Vacation ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ first of all, i want what they have. best friends to lovers?? When Poppy and Alex meet the first year at college the only thing, they have in common is the area they grew up in. Alex is reserved and quiet, while Poppy is outgoing and full of spunk. After they graduate from college, they go their separate ways but develop a long-distance friendship and continue their yearly adventures. The Summer Trip becomes an annual thing for Poppy and Alex. Poppy and Alex haven’t spoken in 2 years. Just like Harry and Sally, Poppy and Alex always find their way back to each other. Their friendship was one of the most important relationships in their lives and they didn't want to cross any lines that may ruin their friendship. I absolutely loved this book. It had me laughing, crying, heart racing and hoping that these two would have a perfect ending. One thing that stuck out to me is how little physical descriptors there are of Poppy and Alex. Probably the quickest Novel I have ever read. I stayed up until 3am devouring this book.

Nothing thrilling in this book
It's not at all kept my interest to read on, i myself a traveller and make such good memories. Even her love making scenes description was not at all exciting or thrilling. I read the book - skip - skip- skip paragraphs way. Really disappointed

love it! 🥰
I reread this after a long time because a series is coming out and I wanted to refresh my memory. This was the first book by Henry that I ever read, and the one that convinced me to follow her in all her future publications. I love her writing style, the way she builds her stories, and her characters. She never disappoints!

Uniquely invigorating
One of my most treasured book reviewers raved about this book for ages. I held off reading it in hopes I could get the US version but alas it wasn’t meant to be so I made do with the UK version, and I’m so glad I bit the bullet. This book was everything I didn’t know I needed from a romance. It’s sweet; and wholesome; and heartbreaking; and hilarious. It’s tangible in a way a lot of romance authors usually can’t quite draw from their writing. And it’s gave me a new-found love for dual timeline plots. This may actually be the best book I’ve read so far this year.

Alex and Poppy, the yearning!!
I’m blown away by how much I’ve loved this book. It’s so much more than a romance. It’s about people. About friendships. About finding yourself and taking the next step. I loved how different Alex and Poppy are. Their dynamic and chemistry were so unique and surprising. I haven’t rooted for a couple to get together as much as I have for Poppy and Alex in a really long time. Alex melted my heart. I felt like I was constantly looking at his Sad Puppy Face while I read because I just wanted to cry for these two. They felt like real people and I related to them on such a deep level, it honestly made me mad at times. The way the story came together was refreshing and worked perfectly. Emily Henry built the mystery and suspense around the Croatia trip so well, I was scared to finally reach that part of the story. Now the romance. This was honestly the slowest slow burn romance I’ve ever read. I felt the yearning and desperation they felt for each other in a way I didn’t think possible. It worked amazingly that it’s a friends-to-lovers romance. The fact that I loved the romance in this book so much, and it’s not an enemies to lovers, is saying something. I enjoyed Beach Read when I read it last year, even if I was a bit disappointed by the lack of romance. However, I am in love with this book. It’ll hold a special place in my heart for how raw and honest it felt to read. I highly, highly recommend it.

Looooooooove-never knew what I was missing?
So, me and my book club decided to read this book. Since it’s on Netflix now. We thought. Let’s kick the year off with a romance. Also, full disclosure my rating is closer to a 3.8/5 than a 3/5 but sadly Amazon still has not nuanced their stars yet(pls pls nuance your stars Amazon I have complicated feelings and just communicate them). The beginning of this book was really hard to read for me. I really wanted to like poppy. I see a lot of myself in poppy. I found poppy annoying (okay maybe I am also annoying and I’m also just waiting for someone who thinks I’m not annoying -crossing my fingers and crying in single). I had to fight through the slow start of the book in the name of my book club and I am glad that I did! Because the slow burn did in fact burn and I really giggled and kicked my feet when the two characters finally started to acknowledge what was clearly never a platonic friendship. It was a predictable read but I signed up for that! And it gave me some sparks of joy to read so. I’ll be watching the movie tonight! If you’re bored and like books about people who like to travel and are friends to lovers and you have patience for a lot of sometimes unnecessary flashbacks (though some were necessary) I think you’d enjoy this book.

Im a sucker for a friends to lovers storyline!
A love a life spanning love story and especially when its a friends to lovers. Im still early in my Emily Henry era but I've really enjoyed everything I've read so far! The humour and banter, the character growth and pacing is just so well done. The travel aspect of this story also just worked so well with seeing the characters mature through their twenties. The challenging family dynamics were also so well done, as someone who ran away from their home town and never looked back this definitely pulled on my heart strings. Was a perfect beach read!
