Great, non-toxic, non-fading coloring
I've written reviews about this for other products that I've mixed it with. Using (red) rust to color concrete or to use it as stain on raw wood is one of the smartest things you can do. I've used it for years and the fact of the matter is it's... rust. It's not paint. It's not going to (ever) flake off or fade. So you never have to reapply it. And it's a wonderful neutral natural color. I buy it in bulk and then mix it with Ferrous Sulfate, (which is a great wood grayer and wood protector) that's safe to be used in planters, even with vegetables, right up against it. Or I mix it with Boiled Linseed oil and you have a wonderful stain with a natural waterproof capability. If you want a maintenance-free (for decades) product and also something that's not toxic to humans. For garden beds or other uses, use red iron oxide.

FYI, it's not magnetic (for anyone wondering)
This seems to be good quality hematite powder, good for anything red iron oxide is good for. For anyone trying to make magnetic slime, note that this is not magnetic like magnetite (black iron oxide). So don't buy the wrong one.

Greet value. Greet customer service response.
Great price for how much you get. Colors very well. I received black but ordered red. They let me keep the black & sent a red batch right away. Very impressive for sure. I appreciate that. I make mini bricks so I have a lot of red dye to make a lot of mini bricks. Buy from them!

Beautiful concrete color, but handle with extreme caution!
The Context: I purchased this Red Iron Oxide powder to stain some concrete for a recent project. While the final color results were fantastic—exactly the rich, natural tone I was looking for—it came with a bit of a "lesson learned" regarding how much it likes to stick to absolutely everything else. The Performance: Color Quality: As a pigment for concrete, it really is top-notch. It mixes in well and provides a consistent, earthy, and deep red that looks much more professional and "natural" than synthetic dyes. If you have the patience to mix it correctly, the outcome is beautiful. The "Mess Factor": Here is the caveat: this stuff is incredibly fine and ultra-pigmented. It will stain anything it touches—clothes, tools, your skin, and even your driveway if you aren't careful during the mixing process. It’s a very "forgiving" product for the concrete, but very "unforgiving" if you spill it. DIY Advice: If you're going to use this, wear gloves, old clothes, and lay down plastic over your entire work area before you even open the bag. It’s an effective, low-cost way to get great results, but the cleanup can be a nightmare if you aren't prepared. Pros: Rich, Natural Pigment: Delivers a deep, professional-looking color that’s perfect for concrete. Cost-Effective: A great way to color large batches of concrete for DIY projects. Durable: Once set in the concrete, the color is vibrant and long-lasting. Cons: Extreme Staining Potential: Requires careful handling because it will stain skin, clothes, and work surfaces on contact. The Verdict: I’m really happy with how the concrete turned out, and for the price, it’s hard to beat. Just be aware that you are working with a potent pigment—if you respect how "messy" it is during the application phase, the results are well worth it.

Great additive for artistic or creative applications!
This is basically rust; but it’s very finely powdered, which makes it a great additive for paints or adhesives that you’re using for artistic applications. Adds a nice swath or splash of red to anything you want to swath or splash up.

It's RUST! I paid money for RUST! But I got a lot, and it's pure.
That's one big bag of rust you get for your money! As for a rating on "Thickness" and "Sheerness" that the review form requested, I know not what to suggest. I didn't know rust could be sheer. But, okay, I'll bite. This rust is very thick and sheer. More importantly you get a lot of it for your money and, saves you the trouble of scraping It off your kids old swing set or the underside of your SUV.

NOT a good source for thermite -- not very pure
I purchased this looking for pure Fe2O3. It is clear that this is NOT pure Fe2O3, rather it is iron ore with a large percentage of Fe2O3. It also contains a fair amount of hydroxides (evident from H2O that are released when heated to abut 600F). Useless for thermite reactions, sadly -- as it barely sustains combustion, and the iron yield is nonexistent (less than 1%). Update: Assay using boiling HCL shows that only 73.6% of this is acid soluble, setting the upper bound for iron oxide content. If you still want to use this for thermite, which I do not recommend, you will want to adjust your weight accordingly.

Useful material
Great for making custom inductors. You can also use it for its intended purpose of being a pigment.
