With a title like Rough, I think I was expecting a grittier read. Something more forbidden, edgier. Instead, the hero does an insta-love on an unlikely heroine...and I just can't get into their story so much. Maybe it felt a little too formulaic to me-- Jared, with his perfect alpha name and the perfect alpha moves, had all the alpha characteristics you look for--gorgeous, muscled, commanding, ex-marine...and so predictable. "Red's" character, the heroine's, had more depth, I related to her in many ways--but NOT the fact that within a few days she had a new man at her side--lived with him--breathed him--puhlease! It just didn't feel credible.The writing was smart as was much of the dialogue...the story was good, if again, predictable....The potential bad guys in the story, just weren't bad enough...and the sex was there and may deliver for some--but for me--wasn't bad enough--desperate enough....I guess I didn't feel the love...just a strange and sudden obsession from a broken ex-marine for a shy beautiful redhead. There wasn't enough to convince me and pull me in and feel passionate for these two.The love struck way Jared acted from the minute he met Red was unrealistic. From the get go he treated her like they'd been a couple for years...weird. Even his love name, "Red" was annoying. Her name is Sienna, yet he cooed, berated, admonished, coaxed,whispered to her using the name Red--a love name you earn once you love someone and have established a relationship. I was almost annoyed with Jared on many an occasion with his stereotypical alpha ways, how he grabbed Red's chin so she'd have to look at him when he was making a point, the intense stare he gave her on every page--he seemed to be a mind reader, because every time Red had an inner monologue over some issue--he would be on it in a heart beat--grabbing her chin and staring intensely into her green eyes and asking her, "Where are you now? What are you thinking?" -- and sometimes he'd tell her. Mind reader. The girl couldn't pee without this guy staring intensely into her eyes...yet, when he needed space, he took it, stormed out of the house without a word. Mr Alpha did not have to explain himself--feelings like that were for pussies. This guy was a marine. Ugh.I guess I expected more...the story and the characters felt... tame, safe...I felt the author lost an opportunity here to really engage me with more...explore the alpha's flaws...what was it about Red that he gave up everything, his job as an escort?
