Ponyo Picture Book

Absolutely beautiful book. I bought this book for my friend's son who just watched the movie for the first time. The illustrations are gorgeous. He loved the book and all the pictures in it. I highly recommend to any Studio Ghibli fan.

Our family loves all the Studio Ghibli / Miyazaki movies, and Ponyo is one of the favorites. Long ago, we purchased the Totoro picture book and was extremely pleased with it, I don't know why it took us so long to purchase the Ponyo one. Like the Totoro book, the Ponyo book is a great book and tremendous value. It follows the movie storyline and a good majority of the dialogue. The pictures are awesome, and if you know anything about Ghibli/Miyazaki films, the animation is super detailed and beautiful, particularly paying lots of respect and attention to nature.

When I went on a Miya-san book purchasing binge from Viz, I wasn't sure how these picture books would relate to the 'Art of' books. Turns out these picture books are just that, re-tellings of the movies using the cell artwork and word balloons where appropriate. The glossy pages and images hold up well and the hardcovers are well manufactured in this batch. These books are suitable to reading to small children as bed time stories, though older readers may appreciate them just as much. They are complimentary to the 'Art of' books, but not replacements. Ponyo is in my top three Miyazaki films (with Totoro, and KiKi) and the exuberance and determination of Ponyo to be with Sosuke leaps off the pages as she rides the wave to be with him. I love the backgrounds in this film and the Devonian era sea-life making its way up and down the flooded coastal village. Still very recommended.

We love these books. The quality is great and my son loves having them read to him.

I bought the book for my three year old who LOVED the movie. She loved the book, too. The story is sufficiently told by the many, many pictures, when she wants to read it by herself. But there is also text provided to be read to her by an adult. Sometimes we read it word for word, which takes a while, or we just go through and tell the story. It's beautifully made and withstood quite a bit of abuse, so far. The pictures do not always follow the Western convention of going from the left to the right. I don't mind, but it might be a bit bewildering at the first time going through.

I bought this for my 3 1/2 year old son for Christmas. He loves watching the movie Ponyo, over and over again so I thought that the book would be a great change, since he also loves reading too. I am surprised by this book, its more than a picture book, it actually has some dialogue and story that you can read along to, and follow just like the movie. I can't wait to read it to my son, he probably already has the story memorized, and this book follows the movie exactly. It's just as enjoyable, if not moreso than the movie, the pictures are very nice and they are scenes from the movie. I would recommend to anyone that enjoys this movie.

Love Studio Ghibli! I bought this book along with some others to have around the house because the art is amazing! The book came in great condition. There were no tears, pages ripped, or corners bent. I thoroughly enjoy looking at it all the time.

Bought this book for my daughter, who is just starting to read on her own. She loves the movie, and this beautiful book is engaging enough to just look at while also inspiring her to decipher certain words to better understand the pictures. All the great details from the movie are in here, in beautifully rendered imaged. Great buy!

Ponyo is yet another brilliant and magical Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli film, and this picture book adaptation is extremely faithful, albeit a tad condensed (as is to be expected). If you and/or your child love Ponyo, this is a must-have addition to your library. My daughter and I adore the film, and I loved reading this book to her.
