#1 New York Times bestselling author Brad Meltzer brings together a remarkable group of heroes with one thing in common: they were ordinary people who became extraordinary. A perfect companion to girl power collections like Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls, Rachel Ignotofsky’s Women in Science: 50 Fearless Pioneers Who Changed the World, and Vashti Harrison’s Little Leaders, Heroes for My Daughter is a necessary addition for children, parents, teachers, and anyone looking for inspiration. The sixty featured figures represent the spectacular potential we all have within us to change the world. The dynamic pages full of photos, quotes, and brief biographies are perfect for reading aloud and allow every reader to explore at their own pace. Not limited to female role models, the wonderfully diverse heroes included in the book are men, women, historical, contemporary, athletes, actors, inventors, politicians, and so much more. Heroes for My Daughter is a book to be read again and again, as the simple question of what makes a hero remains a vital part of today’s conversation. Review: Timeless inspiration for young and old - I read this book and companion, heroes for my Daughter to my kids when they were young, they are now seniors in Hs and in college and still value this book and keep their copies, I love these books so much that I give them to any of my friends that are expecting children, and all of them have enjoyed them and enjoyed reading them to their children. Truly well done and valued books. Review: I loved this book - Finally, a book that i have been waiting for, but didnt know I was looking. Mr. Meltzer has given me the book I wish I had when I Was learning to read. I could have been reading about real women, instead of all those fairy princesses that i was reading about. I bought this book for myself and for my just turned 11 years old granddaughter. He keeps it simple and real. I can't wait to read"Heroes for my Son". Even though its recomended for ages 4-8, i consider it pecfect for any age. Lets face it, I love it when I don't have to look any words up. I can't wait to give it to a whole lot of little girls that will learn from it that any one can be a hero! We all have it within us to do great Wonderful things that can change us for the better, no matter where we come from. My mom is my personal hero and she is the most humble, Generous, and selfless woman I know. Thanks Mr. Meltzer but taking me back in time thru such diverse generations.

Great lessons from a role model
Brad Meltzer is not only an accomplished author but also a role model father of 3. This book is a labor of love for his own sons that you should invest in. These 'hereos' books for sons and daughters highlight specific accomplishments of many very influential people ranging from the household names to personal influences such as Brads early teachers. The stories are not the mainstream tales that you already know but offer a more personal view of what makes these exceptional people who they are. It is a wonderful read and is written so it is appropriate for all ages. Hopefully you pick up his children books, no doubt they will influence your kids in all the right ways and will be passed along to the next generation..

Dangling carrots
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I actually wanted it sooner than I would be able to get it, so I bought the Kindle version and read it on my iPhone. I have to admit that at first I was a little disappointed that there wasn't more detail about each of the heroes, but it wasn't the purpose of this book to give a biography on each of the people in the book: it is the highlight what makes that person a hero. That is what is so genius about it. How do you filter down what each of these people did into the essence of what makes that person a hero? Brad Meltzer does just that and puts it together in a way that makes this book difficult to put down. I was familiar with some of the heroes he had, and not as familiar with others, but as I read about each, I wanted to learn more about them, also. Now I just need to determine where to start. The carrots have been dangled. :) This is a book I will share with family and my child as he grows. Thanks, Brad!

A Good Format
I bought this for our waiting room. It can be read in one sitting by an adult, but probably is read best as proposed by the author, which is to do one person a night with your child. It is inspirational and includes notable people as well as some not so notable. It is a good way to introduce kids to what matters most in people and also so they become familiar with some famous icons. Worth the price.

Snapshots of Humanity
Known for his best-selling mysteries, thrillers, and comic book writing, Meltzer brings to his latest book the same gifts of being able to see the 'big picture' of an elaborate plot with lots of colorful characters -- but this time to give his readers a series of snapshots of humanity -- some of them larger than life, some of them just our size -- to define just what makes an act, or even a thought, a heroic one. And how heroism doesn't necessarily require an interesting job or position of power or even a cape, but is more about what you stand for. Meltzer doesn't want his readers to idolize these people, but just to nod their heads and say "Wow." Not preachy or condescending (and always, always surprising) this book is not just a gift for dads or sons or daughters or moms, it's a good reminder of what we all are capable of.

love this
My husband bought this book to read to our 5 year old son. He had heard about it on the talk radio station and instantly came to amazon to order it. I have to say, I didnt think it was going to be something worth while. I was really impressed with it when we received it. It has great people in there for kids to look up to and even has pages in it for the kids and dad's to put their own heroes they have had in their lives. It is something great for fathers and sons to have and do together. It is creative and educational.

Sweet, but Short
This is a very sweet book. It was well-described on line. I knew it was going to be a short book and yet it was so short it didn't have an impact on me. I really like this author, so I wanted to give it a higher score. I was surprised that I was disappointed. Maybe if I had a little girl I'd have a different opinion.

Two stars

It is a very popular book, however I am amazed to see the lack of basic story telling about the subjects. I really wonder what do I tell my son about a particular individual out of the book, there is no short story or summary of his life and achievements which a child can grasp. I feel kind of written a bit awkward way and one has to go back to Wikipedia for some knowledge about the subject for the kid. My son lost interest after only a few pages.
