But everything changes with the birth of her daughter Riya who is a mentally disabled child.Once Janaki didn't have any purpose worth fighting for, but now Riya becomes her strength and reason to fight against the pre-set ideas and norms of the society.She associates her inability to speak Malayalam with her daughter's lack of speech and together they form the subaltern.
