Victor Power-Kill Mouse Traps, 6-Pack Humane Snap Traps

These really work! I like how there is a little hole for you to drop bait into for easy setting. No need to touch where the last mouse was. The extra lever makes this the easiest trap to set that I've ever used with it being virtually safe from accidental tripping (plus, once again, no need to touch the mouse end). These things snap down way harder than I expected. I've had mice survive standard mouse traps, but no mouse is surviving one of these. If a mouse did manage to survive (which I can't see happening), there is no way they are wiggling free with the serrated edge. Though these are more expensive, they will pay for themselves seeing as I will actually reuse these due to the easy release.

I've had these for about 2 hours now and have already killed 3 mice. It can be a little bloody at times, so if you are sensitive to that, be forewarned. I tried live capture traps first, but got fed up with having to transport live mice far enough that they wouldn't come back. Quick and effective and very easy to bait and set. I can dispose of the dead mouse and reset it in less than a minute. I use peanut butter and haven't even had to re-bait them so far, as the mouse doesn't even have a chance to eat it. So much better than glue traps, which honestly feel cruel as they don't die right away. Better than poison, because if you've ever had a mouse die in your wall, you will never forget that smell. Definitely a new improvement over the old traps and would recommend 100% if you have a mouse issue.

When it comes to rodent control, I generally like to deter and close off entrances rather than kill unless pests are indoors and/or causing destruction. Short version: If you want to be rid of mice, use a snap trap. Don't use a glue trap - a quick death is better than them suffering trying to get loose. Load this snap trap with peanut butter and *wham* the job is done overnight. Longer version: For a couple seasons I had field mice and squirrels getting into my Weber grill and feeding on the interior grease pan despite have a grill cover. I bought some chicken wire type screens and bolted these to the grill frame basically eliminating most entrances. This worked for the squirrels, but crafty mice found a way to climb inside the grill using the grill cover, moving across the shelving and through a very small opening. I grill every 2-3 days so I'm constantly checking for droppings. I tried my cinnamon oil deterrent (great for bats) and that didn't work all that great for these critters. I kept them around too long fiddling with deterrents that they chewed through my ignitor wiring, which had to be repaired (and eventually replaced). Now fed up with them I got these snap traps and they were easy to use without risking pain to yourself. Load with peanut butter and overnight these caught four (over two nights.) Eliminated the issue. If I see more droppings inside, I will load these with PB again and move on. I deduct one star for it's plastic build, unsure of durability, but it's holding up fine. After a mouse dispatch, I spray the trap off with a garden hose and dry in the sun. I have no issue re-using these.

Got these so I'd have no excuse for not setting traps at night. I'm often in the bush and this year I've had an unbelievable amount of rodent nests popping up overnight in my engine bay. Often, I'll be too tired to meticulously set the standard plate-spring-latch traps and will just go to bed and let the rodents have a free for all, much to my regret and dismay in the morning. These? You just push the lever down. That's it. So, one could be so tired you can't remember who you are or where you came from, but you could still set one of these traps. Extremely easy. The laziest, slowest man on earth could set a hundred of these a minute. I've seen them sell for $8 per trap in stores. $12-16 for 6 is a good deal. Not the most sensitive traps. I've had a couple dabs of peanut butter get stolen out of the bait cup, and not strong enough to trap or kill most rats though that should be expected as it's a small trap and rats are ... Well, big. Still, I've caught a good amount of mice with them and my engine bay remains rodent gnaw free.

Work good and seem to set off easier than others. But not always humane. Had to listen to a mouse squeal and scream because it took time for it to die. Went to empty another one and the mouse was flopping all over. Went back half hour later still alive.

These traps are both extremely effective and cost-effective. I have baited them with peanut butter and have caught several mice with them, ensuring that those rodents never enter our house again. To make clean-up easier, I place each trap on top of a cardboard, about the size of an 8.5X11 sheet of paper, and once the mouse is caught, I simply dump both the trap and the cardboard into a couple of large plastic bags and dispose of them. I do not reuse the traps, since they are not overly expensive. However, when you set the trap, make sure that the spring mechanism snaps into place cleanly, otherwise it could come down on your fingers. But a strong spring ensures that the mouse will be effectively eliminated when it enters the trap.

I decided to give these a try, since the regular style Victor traps don't always trigger when a mouse is on them. I can't say that they're much better. See the video I've included. I have 3 of these videos and none of them show the trap triggering when the mouse is on them. I have 2 traps set (plus two regular rat traps) and the mouse fed on both mouse traps without getting caught. You can see the mouse stands on the trigger several times and runs across it a couple times too...Nothing. I will try blocking the back side of the traps so they can't be entered from that direction, and I will say that these are easier to set and clean out than the older wooden style traps. I guess I don't know why the triggers aren't more sensitive. Mice are extremely light, so they just don't weigh enough to set them off. I've run my "Rat Cam" for several years now and have seen some amazing things. Including how often the mice are successful at licking the traps clean without triggering them. I guess we're still waiting for a "better mouse trap."
