Love this product / even more now
Man I love this thing. Most of the negative/low star reviews are from individuals who aren’t the correct use case for this pool filter. My biggest gripe was dealing with changing out the sock and the method it was installed. Well I lost the little blue ring and in a pinch used the sock over as seen in the pic. Well sorry pool devil I almost came back and bought a 3rd one of these just for the ring but finding this sock hack made this product even better for me. More stuff gets through to the sock, and the sock no longer flaps around gets caught sideways. Its way quicker to change too. Some others mentioned poor suction, well there is no suction it needs good water flow out of the pool jet to do its thing. Another commenter mentioned how they have long leaves falling in their pool that won’t fit through the 3” hole. Yes basically just think about what you have in your pool and decide if your pool stuff will fit. There was another post about how the pooldevil will mess with your pool’s water circulation. And maybe in specific cases that could be. I’m actually using mine to help boost my pool’s circulation so I’m getting a pre-filter before the debris makes it to the skimmer. There was also a mention of this device changing the ph of the pool. I don’t see how that could be the case. Even with the bit of turbulence created I can’t imagine the air incorporated through agitation would be significant enough to change the ph in a significant way. And the way to decrease the turbulence is to change the angle the 90 deg adapter is at. I have just under the 3oclock position which brings the spout just under the water line. And even when longer sticks get stuck in the opening at least it all collected in the same area an I can grab it real quickly. I have a 20k gallon saltwater pool and this has helped me cut down the amount of filter back washing at least 30%. I’m currently dealing with an algae bloom from the pool sitting covered for 2 years because of a baby. It’s pretty amazing how helpful this thing is at grabbing really small particles. I’d write more but I need to get back to cleaning. For me this thing is a must have in my pool. And I’ll purchase a new one when this one needs replacing.

Nothing is better at skimming the pool
this is my 3rd PoolDevil. I give it 5 starts because it works great. Nothing is better at skimming the pool. It doesn't last forever. Chlorine eats at the plastic hose and it will break after 2-3 years. And the main float plastic also deteriorates. But I don't subtact a star because thats expected sitting in a chloring pool and 90 degree sun the whole year. I just wish there were afordable replacement hoses ($5 - $10). The filter socks are also waaay too expensive. So I just use long tube socks from any store. Great product.

The socks could be a little better grade as they tend to rip.
So the product performs ok. It does pick up a lot of the smaller floaties in the pool but I am glad I have a fence as it is quite loud and creates a waterfall type sound. Without the fence my neighbors might be annoyed. Biggest issue is that the socks are expensive to replace and if you get a bigger leaf in them they pretty much rip right open and start to wear at the seams after about two weeks even when washing them. Good concept but the wear items need to be a little better construction as now I am contemplating something more expensive for the main pool skimmer as this fix is not economically sustainable.

It absolutely works!
We ordered the Pooldevil because our pool skimmer just wasn't getting the itty-bitty stuff floating on the surface - the biggest culprit being the little worm-like debris (male pine cones) from the numerous pine trees in our front yard. Assembly/installation was super easy. It takes up very little space along the edge of the pool (ours is attached to the return in the deep end of our pool). We had to play with the angle of the hose a bit so that it sat just on the surface to create the vortex (too high of an angle, and the water shoots above the surface of the pool and there's no vortex). We hooked it up, got it situated, and let it do its thing. The next day when we came out, I was AMAZED at how clean our pool surface was! This thing works. Period. We've had it just about a month now, and there is no way our pool surface would stay clean without it. We leave our pump running 24/7, so it's always working. We were in the pool one super windy day - gusts would cause all sorts of crap to just come flying onto the pool surface. The Pooldevil sucked it all up within a few minutes, each and every time. A couple of cautions: 1) Turn off the pump when you clean out the sock. It just makes it easier not to have to worry about a spastic hose spewing water everywhere. 2) Those socks are not very sturdy. We have a magnolia tree in the backyard, and those leaves are hearty (and yes, they DO get sucked up into the sock!) We are diligent about using our net to skim all large debris off the surface, but sometimes, you just can't before it gets sucked in. The seams ripped on both socks, ruining them. They also stretch out after a while, so you do need to replace them (we're on our third sock). 3) Those socks are expensive (I think I saw that on someone else's review). We had some skimmer basket socks on hand - I tried one, and it works perfectly. These (skimmer basket socks) are way less expensive than the ones specifically for the Pooldevil. 4) It took what seemed like forever to get this thing finally delivered -- about a month from order to delivery, I believe. There was a point when I almost cancelled the order and was going to go with something else, but I'm glad I didn't!

Has saved me a lot if time!
I recently moved to El Paso, Texas. If you dont know anything about the area it is in the desert and it can be very windy. Our house has a beautiful pool, but it quickly became a chore to maintain. We have six tall pine trees along the patio which is great for privacy, but a headache for pool maintenance! And did I mention sand and wind?! And tiny little black bugs. I could skim the pool, turn around and it would be a mess again! The Pool Devil has been a God send! I can do a quick skim to get the bigger stuff and then this thing handles the rest! No more pine needles or little black bugs constantly floating in the pool! And set up was a breeze! And it is small enough where it is not in the way of swimmers. It hugs the wall of the pool nicely. Only when the sock get full does it have a tendency to float away from the side. Our pool only has one built in skimmer (thought it should have two). The Pool Devil is like having another dedicated skimmer! I actually think it works better than the actual bult in skimmer! If you have a pool and are considering buying one of these dont hesitate! It's well the money!

Works good, but . . .
Let me start by saying this is a very good product. It collects debris from the water’s surface very well. There is one huge caveat though. It really needs to be used with a multi return pool only. If you have an above ground pool with only one return line, which is a majority, do not use this. I found out the hard way and got an algae bloom. With this, the circulation of the pool water is moved from under water to the surface of the water. You need the circulation down in the water or your going to get dead spots where your chemicals are not going to effectively reach. That’s how I got my algae bloom. If you have multiple return jets, this would work great for you since you have other jets circulating under the water’s surface.

This is the cleanest the surface of our pool has ever been
Like many homes with pools, dust, bugs, pollen seeds and grass are a big problem. It’s a never ending battle. For years we would have to spend 15-20 minutes netting the crap off the top of our pool every time we want to swim, and while netting, watch more crap and bugs fall in. Went looking for a solution and found these. Bought two and Installed them in just a few minutes and the next day the pool surface was impeccably clean, and all the crud was in the socks. Wish I had found these years ago. Looking forward to greater enjoyment of the pool. They don’t take up much room and should be able to stay in the pool all the time. My one concern is we have a robotic pool cleaner and I’m not sure if it will grab a sock off the Pooldevil or not. I guess I’ll find out. In theory, since the Pooldevils are keeping the top of the pool dramatically cleaner continuously, I shouln’t have to run the robot nearly as often. Edit: After a week, I'm amazed how clean the pool is. No more netting the pool before swimming. Maybe clean the socks at most because these things have been busy all the time. Advice: If you have a pool cleaning robot, it might eat the socks off the PoolDevil. I thought it might but I let it run a couple times anyway to make sure. There's a spare sock in the box so no big deal, and more socks are cheap. If your robot is programmable you may want to consider setting it to "bottom only" mode vs. bottom and sides. Otherwise you might consider removing the socks before running the robot.

Refill socks are way too much - Possible you may get an open box/returned item from some sellers
2025 Update 3 - Look at the seller feedback before buying. The seller that got our order was sending used/open/damaged items to people, then charging a 90% restocking fee when you asked for a refund. OutDoorLivin The other sellers might be okay. 2025 Update 2 - Ordered this on 7/12 - Finally received on 7/21. When it came in, it was shipped in a bag and the box was crushed. I opened the box, and it was clearly a returned open box item and not new. Possible parts missing as well. Why someone thought it was a good idea to not only send an open box item, but also package it so poorly is beyond me. I went to exchange the item, but the only option is to return it, and looks like the price went up quite a bit since I ordered it. I will re-order it elsewhere. 2025 Update - The replacement lasted less than 2 seasons. The new one has the same issue where the tube gets brittle and cracks, and of course, it's not something off the shelf. They need to use a better tube for these things. If another manufacture comes up with something similar, but built better, I'll buy it. Still using the standard pool skimmer socks and they work great. I'm just NOT going to pay the super high cost for a 4 pack of their socks when I can get a 50+ pack for less and that amount will last 2-3 seasons. Works fine for helping to collect the stuff off the surface of the water. The one we replaced was only maybe 3-4 years old, but the hose became brittle and can't be purchased separately. The other issue is the socks are VERY expensive and do need to be changed as they fill up with debris. I found that the skimmer socks will work. They aren't as long as the ones made specifically for this, but they cost significantly less.
