Our cam ops like them.
Better zoom speed control than the 'button' controls. We ordered a second one and it also works well (albeit, I had to fiddle with the switch and jack connection at first). For the sake of others looking at this, we never tried the record button, just the zoom feature for our Canon XA11s.

Best buy on a budget.
I'm not going to kid you, these devices work great but under heavy use they will break. Mostly they break where the cable connects to the body and inside on the circuit board. But, under light use they will last for years. I have used them for years and found that the price point is so low you can afford to keep spares on the shelf. We do a lot of live shows and they never fail during a show, but sometimes during set up. My camera operators like that they don't have a bunch of buttons on them and they operate just like the expensive ones on the studio cameras.
