It covers all the basics you wish someone would explain when you suddenly find yourself responsible for a team — things like communication, building trust, handling tough conversations, setting expectations, and learning how to guide people instead of just doing everything yourself. What I appreciated most is how straightforward the book is. The authors don’t overcomplicate things. Each chapter focuses on a real skill a new manager needs, and the examples make it easy to understand how to apply the lessons in everyday situations. It felt like having a mentor walk me through the things I should be thinking about: treating people with respect, being consistent, giving clear direction, and making space for employees to grow. The book also gave me a few “pause and think” moments — especially around how much influence a manager’s attitude and approach can have on team culture. It helped me look at my own habits and consider what kind of manager I want to be long-term. If there’s one drawback, it’s that some of the concepts will feel familiar if you’ve read other modern leadership books.
