I drilled a 1mm pilot hole to match the screw’s depth, measured with the button, screw, and felt assembled. This was then widened to 2mm, then 3mm. To prevent the screw from damaging the finish or the centre seam, I drilled the outer layer to 3.2mm to a depth of 2mm. The screw went in smoothly and held securely. The opening in the button is wide enough to accommodate a standard screwdriver head without issue.
