I ordered it to make a red velvet cake for my husband's birthday but realized I should have ordered more. I used up all of the food coloring in the small bottle and had to add some other red food coloring to make up the difference. It didn't seem to make a difference in the vivid red color of the cake, but I suggest ordering more if you are using it for a red velvet cake.

A: no it's water base

**Q: Does this give the icing  bitter flavor?**
A: I have used this product for several years, in many different colors, and no there is no flavor associated with it. It’s much better than anything you can buy at the grocery store.

**Q: Is the color oven-stable, like for macaron shells?**
A: Yes

**Q: can I use to color char siu?**
A: Yeah I don’t see why not, it may be more red than pink though.
