Is it actually engraved or just painted on?

It is not engraved, but it is very good quality. I have purchased 3 (1 for each of my dogs, all at different times) and all 3 have held up even when the dogs are playing rough with each other.

I picked a black tag and the preview shows black print will this be changed?

I would think when they etch it, it will be silver. When the one I purchased the purple one it was etched silver.
