Stetson Men's Royal Deluxe Open Road

Fit is great (7 3/4 on my about 23” head). Can wear it all day and it doesn’t ever feel too tight, but I can ride a bike and it doesn’t blow off mainly because of the leather interior band which kind of sticks the hat to your forehead. I do have just about an inch and a half of fitting tape on the inside to shape the hat to my weird head a little better. It feels like there’s a little room for the hat to shrink just a bit, which I’m told is normal for hats to do as they age. See how that goes in the future. I thought I ordered ‘grey’ but the box is labeled ‘caribou’. Looks like a dark grey, so no problem. The hat normally looks darker grey (like what’s shown in my second pic), but occasionally under some lighting conditions it looks like a lighter grey (like my first pic). As far as cons: I guess I would say the dark grey ‘caribou’ isn’t super versatile. It looks really good with some things, and other things it doesn’t quite work as well. I’m not a huge fan of the cheap grey band it comes with. A ‘cognac’ leather (like what’s on the inside of the hat) would look so much better against the grey, in my opinion. So I’m trying to find a hat band the right size and color. For some people spending this much on a hat would be a big con. You kinda get what you pay for and I would say the hat feels and looks like what you’re paying for it.

I wasn’t sure if it was my style or not. Been hung up on ordering one versus a traditional quality cowboy hat for 2 years. It’s definitely an investment. All I can say is, do it. The hat is classic, stylish and Stetson quality. Packaging was in a nice Stetson box, and the hat is fabulous. My next addition will be the Open Road in straw for spring / summer. 5 stars!

Very nice hat. Worth the money

Beautiful hat

This hat has become a classic for good reason. Looks good on just about everybody. Women look great in it. It's a standard among more formal Bluegrass bands. This Royal Deluxe version is Stetson's more "affordable" version. It's probably all wool, and it's thinner and lighter than the the 6x version, which is a blend of wool and fur. The latter is more robust, has a better finish, and is more durable. It's more desireable if you're going to use this hat for work and rugged outdoor use. In other words, you are a real cowboy. But the only people on the street who will notice a difference will be hat fanatics. This version, however, is more versatile than the original because you can snap the brim down in the front to give it more of a western look if you wish. Make sure you read the how-to-fit description. You want wear the hat so the brim almost touches your ears. Wearing a too-small hat perched on top of your head is a stylistic no-no and brands you as a naive wannabe.

Love this hat. Shipped in original packaging, was clear the seller handled with care. There was a slight delay with Amazon but it only set back the delivery a half day. Product was exactly as advertised and the fit was reflective of the accurate size guide. When in doubt, order size up. It’s lighter than I expected which helps with warm weather but it retains its shape despite an airy, comfortable feel. Color is true black and you won’t find a better option than a Stetson.
