Very good for basic Russian
I learned how to count from 1 all the way to 100 in Russian using this book lol. I have a notebook specifically for taking notes from this book, it has been super helpful. The goal is to reach fluency and although I can't say that I am there yet, this book has been helpful for basic Russian and increasing my basic knowledge of the language. Easy to follow along. I really enjoy the book, would recommend to anyone hoping to become more fluent in Russian.

Great Introduction To Russian
A wonderful and easy to understand source for anyone beginning to study the Russian language. The Cyrillic alphabet, often a source of real difficulty, is explained. An effort is made to simplify and also to give phonetic pronunciations of the language. Frequent words and phrases like days of the week, numbers, etc., are covered. Real time situations such as restaurants and banks are also covered. If you are just beginning to struggle with the Russian language you need this introduction. It does come with a CD but you will need a more comprehensive CD course to complement it. I cannot think of a better way to begin to learn Russian than this book.

Good Path for Beginners
This works very well for beginners, but it perhaps can be too basic in certain areas. For example, when it teaches you about case endings, it does not take into account spelling rules. Or, for example, with adjectives, it just says "it could be this, or it could be that" without telling you when it is and is not this or that way. However, there is a simple fix to this, get an English-Russian dictionary that should tell you more specifically or just use the internet. However, this is a good resource to show you what you should be learning, where you should start, what to expect. I would still recommend it.

Perfection
This book is great for learning the basics for traveling in Russia. I realize its not a popular choice right now but that's half my heritage. So I appreciate the good deal on the book and it looked brand new. I would definitely buy from this seller again, and probably will

The book is organized so that it's easy to learn.
I liked what I have read so far, and I have learned some great phrases and new words. The book is easy to understand, and I'm looking forward to using it more often to translate YouTube Russian news and conferences.

The First Step?
Talk about the hassles of learning a foreign language. Russians not only use a different alphabet, but the phraseology, syntax and translations can actually vary from translator to translator. I have five different Russian learning books, and use Google Translate as the referee. You better write down what you translate, because if you forget your source you may have a helluva time finding how you got what you're trying to say. Barring all that, Russian For Dummies is a good place to start. It tells a bit about the country, provides lots of basics and will set you off on the right foot. It's gonna be one long journey, but learning this fast-spreading language is a great and rewarding achievement.

a very good thick book
this is a great book if you would like to learn to speak and write Russian this is a great book to have in your quest. i have been told Russian is a hard language to learn and 1 thing that makes it difficult is the alphabet they use is different for some of us so you need to learn that. this book is very in depth and has a lot to offer it is well laid out and is on par with other for dummies books.i would recommend this book to any one trying to learn the Russian language.

Russian for Dummies explained those difficult Cases that I finally can understand them ! The chapters cover the topics clearly and easily. It uses little quizzes for practice . And the CD covers all the conversation. I have recommended Russian for Dummies to a few of my friends

I consider this book (2nd edition) as a good support in order to develop your oral skills and enrich daily vocabulary (all words are given in cyrillic, which is a feature not present in the former edition). You need, however, other books to start with especially as to grammar and in case you want to be able to read complex texts. By and large, it can be a helpful accessory in your toolbox to learn Russian.

Fo you will need an extra book- some grammer is too fast explained for a beginner or too little . You are expected to learn phrases by heart - but if the russian guy answers a bit differently, you get lost. So I would have had more grammar to be able to put own sentences together.
