Yes, these needles have a House Hold flat shank.

Will this fit singer 3229 sewing machine?

Hello. Yes, it is compatible with Singer 3229 sewing machine. Best regards.

Will this work on poly tent tarps?

We will try our best to answer without details such as make/model of your machine, type of thread, thickness of fabric, etc. First, use a fresh needle as this will help avoid fabric damage. In general, polyester responds better to small needles, as larger needles tend to cause holes in the fabric. We suggest 70/10-80/12 ballpoints, sharps, and stretch needles, depending on your polyester's weight, blend, and fabric structure. Loosely woven polyester responds well to a ballpoint. Sharp needles are best for tightly woven fabrics, and stretch needles are great for polyester and spandex blends.
