Water for acrylic and other water-based paints, or turpentine for alkyd or oil paints. I tried another jar, which had a dome shaped screen inside, but the screen setup is really hard on brushes, as the bristles tend to get snagged in the screen and damaged. The only drawback to this system is that the jar can be difficult to clean.
Review: I love this brush cleaner - I have tried several brush cleaners but this one is my favorite. The spring inner works well to clean the paint off the brush while I am cleaning it. However, that same spring is a bit of a chore to remove and clean. It is not enough of a problem to dissuade me form using, but it is enough to reduce the number of times I clean the jar and spring. The smooth aluminum coil inside will never damage your expensive brushes. Can be used for any medium. Water for acrylic and other water-based paints, or turpentine for alkyd or oil paints.
