The ad is incorrect. I only ordered because I needed a 2 inch belt. Very disappointed. I have asked Amazon to require the vendor to correct its ad. **Q: How thick is it?** A: The width is 1 15/32", and the thickness is an eighth of an inch... it does not get caught up in Dickey's pants or short pant belt loops. Hope this was helpful... **Q: Your product description lists the belt as being 54" in length. if i want a belt that is in fact 54" in length, should i select the size 44 option?** A: I would go about 46. Thankfully, this belt is fully adjustable. For selecting a belt "length" in general, the rule of thumb is to take your pant size and go up one. So if you wear a 52, you would get the belt that is listed as 54". If you wear a 42, you would go for the belt that is listed as 44". **Q: if your waist measures 42 inches......what size belt to order? is the size given the actual length of belt, or the size of waist?** A: It is recommended that you order the next size up from your waist size.
