Good quality and Looks amazing
Beautiful Katana if you love the blacked-out look, as I do. I can't comment on usage, but visually passes things I look for such as casting issues or fitment of the Kashira, Fuchi, Koiguchi, and Saya. Those are the the most common problem areas of poorly made swords. Everything feels tight and fits good, no wiggle or play in any part of the sword. I'm primarily using as display , but wanted something that could function as self defense if needed and as my collection grows with more ornate swords, I'll likely use this for practice later on. I also purchased JIHPEN's Wakizashi and Tanto of the same style, you can see how they look together in the pictures. They oddly don't have them all as options on the Katana's listing, if you search around just make sure the Tsubu (hand guard) design matches in case they make more black sword varieties. Pros: - Looks beautiful, they take pride in their work for sure. - The all black blade is amazing, wish I was displaying it so you can see the blade but I decided on a traditional war-time look for now. - Amount of detail at the price point is perfect. - Feels good in my hand, everything is solid. I would feel confident if it ever needed to be used. - Weight is nice for a 2-had grip, it's a Katana so you should be using 2 hands. Cons: - None, great product. Hope to buy many more from JIPHEN :)

Really solid sword for the price
Can’t say anything bad about this sword. I didn’t take it apart yet but the blade seems full tang and spring steel, it’s very sharp but not smoothly sharp little choppy but it’s 70$. Fittings are to be expected that gold mall looking stuff . And the tsuka has fake ray skin and it’s not even wrapped all the way around, just two strips . The wrap is kinda slick but it does have a very thing profile which is nice for grip. Scabbard is actually really cool looking and well fitted. I don’t like the kanji characters on there since it could say dumb American thinks he samurai or whatever and I wouldn’t know . Sword makers no one wants junk on the blade except the maker marks on the hilt part that’s covered . Also no one wants these dumb dragon super mall ornate decorations , people want plane since the cheesier you make it look the cheesier it likely will be . But not a bad deal for price and there is a blood ridge on it which is nice but no hamon( modern sword making doesn’t require one though as it doesn’t add to anything but looks of the blade in this day in age . )if in doubt buy it you’ll probably like it or just spend 40$ more and get something from a well known forge.

Could be stronger
I loved the way it looked the blade was wrapped in plastic with Vaseline on the blade I hit it against wood and didn’t chip the blade so it’s strong witch is nice and I like the way the sheath has a glow in the light from the works done to it it does give a rattle when I first bought it and wish it was sharper but it’s a good sword to start with

Better than expected
I was surprised at how solid this sword is. When I shook it, there was no play in the handle. It came with some grease on the blade and a plastic covering over that. When I cleaned the grease off, I found the blade to be razor sharp! It's a great looking sword and it even came with a small wooden sword stand. I will probably cut through some water jugs and a tatami mat to test it out. It was made in China. I didn't see that when I read the description but I should have known better. It definitely is not a toy. It is a great display piece and is functional, though I am not going to torture test it and find-out what it's limitations are.

Balance, solid performance.
I recently purchased what I expected would be an acceptable katana for kata practice and forms development. I was exceptionally surprised by the quality that I recieved with this katana. It is well made, beautiful, and strong. I was not looking for a katana that sliced thru bottles or anything else such as katame rolls or bottles, but this little beast came thru all of it, When practicing it looks amazing, swings with power and grace, and makes me look practiced and polished. One concern that others have made here is the overall hefty weight of this katana. Yes, it IS a bit on the heavy side, but since most of my practice is done with a Subarito rather than a standard bokken, the wieght is both managable and comfortable for my use. Using the subarito is a distinct advantage is acclimating to a wieghtier katana. No speed is sacrificed by the wieght, and the heft seems to provide even more power to my swing.

Really Great Value for Money
For the price, I have to say that this sword is pretty great. The cons: The wrap could be tighter on the handle. The Menuki are shown as gold in colour, but in reality it's the same metal as the other fittings: some sort of probably zinc alloy. Shiny, but probably wouldn't survive actual combat. The transition between the wrap and the Fuchi is so-so, with some gaps showing. There is no visible Hamon that I can see under any of the lighting options I have available. Fit in the saya is ok but not great, with it being a little tight right at the mouth. The pros: The sword is nicely balanced and quite light. Moves well and everything is assembled tight. No rattles or anything loose. The blade is SHARP out of the box. Paper-cutting sharp. There is no secondary bevel, just a smooth taper to a very fine edge. I can't speak to the durability since I won't be cutting anything past paper with it for the time being, and really there's no way to know what steel this is made of. This model is no longer listed on the manufacturer's site, so it could be (and probably is 1060, and if so, and if it was properly heat treated, it should be a relatively tough blade. The lack of Hamon may indicate that it was through-hardened. All in all, for $130 you get an apparently functional katana that looks nice enough to display (I didn't mention it, but I really like the saya design), and it might just be made of a good enough steel to be useable in a pinch. You could do worse.

Richtiges funktionierendes Katana

Amazing look, feel, sharpness. For the price it is stunning.
Absolutely amazing quality "for the price". It is nowhere near a real hand forged katana from a swordsmith but for this price point you cannot complain. PROS: 1. SHARP!!! 2. Beautiful all black blade and scabbard 3. Absolutely SHARP AF, be very very careful with this. It will certainly slice through bamboo or melons with ease. This is not a toy and must be respected even though doesn't really fall into a "real" Katana category. 4. PRICE, absolutely no complaints at this price point, weight, balance, sharpness, simplistic design, hamon etc... gorgeous and great for collectors CONS: 1. Lacking in the "art" of more traditional Katana 2. Can be dangerous if not handled properly (but that comes with the territory) 3. Scabbard could be a bit higher quality, glossy black coating but once again you cannot complain at this price. 4. Comes in a box which has graphics showing what is inside, I wish amazon put one of their boxes for privacy. PROS outweigh the Cons by a large margin. 5/5 Stars for what you pay, if you like the black/black style this thing is absolutely amazing and Ill be adding the Wakizashi from the same brand very shortly.
