As a gag gift for a friend this might be OK. Don't expect good gin though. **Q: What is the proof for completed product?** A: The kit requires the purchaser to provide his or her own vodka, from which the gin is made. Therefore, the proof of the gin is whole dependent on the proof of the vodka used as its base. **Q: Not sure when to order this. Do the contents of the kit expire?** A: There is no expiration date for the contents. **Q: I accidentally added the botanical blend at the same time as the juniper berries. Has anyone done this? Does it still turn out?** A: This should not affect the blend. To be able to sell two plain glass bottles, a metal funnel, and two tiny canisters of juniper berries and herbs for $35... the markup here is probably just as good as (or perhaps even better than) selling actual liquor in a real bar.Yet, the concept is a cool one, and having this starter hardware makes getting into gin-steeping on the ground floor that much easier for newbies like me. There were a few people at my party who tried the gin this produced, who ended up preferring commercial gin that was less herbal. However, I (and most others) really enjoyed it. I look forward to further experimentation with my own herbal mixes, now that I understand the applied concepts here.While I do feel slightly taken advantage of with regard to what you get (physically) for what you pay, helping motivated DIYers to realize how easy it is to turn vodka into gin was the real "purchase" that made paying this markup seem worthwhile.
