When closed, there was a 1/2" gap between the door (or hood if you prefer) and the chassis. I used self tapping screws and went through the rubber into the hood and secured it into place. I did this 6 weeks ago and barely a drop of rain gets through now. This is good rubber that is not either too soft nor too hard. It is just the right consistency at 1/8" for the job it was intended. I'd like to use it as a gasket in my gas water heater manifold door.** A: According to the internet, neoprene has a burn point of 260°C or 500°F. Water has a boiling point of 100°C or 212°F. The metal used to house/move hot water can take on some of the heat from the water to get hotter than the water, depending on the metal. You can look up the properties of metals (thermal conductivity) to figure out how much heat they'll take on. It really depends on your specific hot water heater. Initially it worked great, no more leaks through the doors (hinge side) during rainstorms. Now the rubber is separating at the fold and is allowing water to seep in. Other applications where it is flat it will probably be stellar. Above was my original review, since then, without any further communication on my part the seller reached out and offered a FULL REFUND!
