One of the best, most entertaining books I've read in a long time . The elements of mystery and thrill were kept alive until the very end and the humour which was all the more effective because it was not obvious and in your face. The best part were the group of septugarian detectives who were absolutely delightful . For the most part I felt I was reading Agatha Christie and P.G. Woodhouse at the same time.

An absolute romp of a book. I cannot wait for the second book. The narrative style is easy to read, the prose very simple, whilst the plotting is really intricate without ever seeming so. The level of detailing done in describing the retirement home is absolutely stunning. Same goes for the characterization of the four protagonists, plus the two coppers who are the heartbeat of this book. A brilliant debut novel with more to come, which is music to the ears of English Countryside Murder Mystery aficionados.

I think I went into this with very high expectations because of the reviews I read. So let me set expectations here for others like me so that you can actually enjoy the book more. The book is unusual -- elderly amateur detectives in a retirement community -- and may be worth a read for that reason itself. You have to suspend your disbelief at some of the contacts Elizabeth has and make your peace with two rather ineffectual cops. I grew up reading Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie books so I should be quire used to the gifted amateur versus the ineffectual cops trope but the cops are not sidelined as much here which makes them real people you can be interested in and makes it that much harder to swallow when they blindly follow where events lead them. Apart from that I think the author still needs to find his voice which is understandable for a first book. The parts written in the first person just don't ring very true at times when the writer tries to make her seem like an elderly woman wittering on. Miss Marple could derail a train of thought for paragraphs on end and sound 'real'. Perhaps in the next book the author will get there. And in the end, that's my main grouse I think. The characters still feel a bit cookie cutter. A bunch of adjectives thrown together that I still can't get a feel for as people. Specially Ibrahim. Again this may be cured over the course of more books. I don't know if I'll read them though. Oh and no way will a devout Christian commit suicide. I rolled my eyes so hard at that bit!

Good Mystery/Twist. Bit Stretched in my personal view but I liked the book. I will recommended to read once. X

I loved the book. It was a fun read with a bunch of twists & turns. And I loved how all the detectives are elderly and so full of life.

There is a good mix of mistery solving and daily strugles of our elders. Definitely a light read and a page à page turner

I love a novel that is not too winding, but still mysterious enough. I found the storytelling is easy to read, but the twist is amazing that makes me keep guessing who is the killer. Recommend it!

Excellent price for an excellent book.

This is a completely new series for me from what I normally read and enjoy ... It's GOOD! The plot is intricate, characters very colorful and clearly defined ... when you begin, it's very difficult to find a stopping place, or even just a place for a brief break ... Very good read --- looking forward to continuing the series.
