Maya, This "toy" was not intended to have a serious magnification factor. I don't know what the actual magnification is, but I'd guess it only has a factor of about 2X. Like you, I bought mine to be used as a prop to go along with my Sherlock Holmes outfit. If you need a more powerful glass you might have to look at purchasing a "real" magnifying glass.
