Hot Wire Foam Cutter with Digital Voltage Controller, 18W Hot Knife Kit

Worked surprisingly well. I only used the u-shaped wire cutter to cut one inch thick styrofoam with printed sign cutouts mounted to it. The cutter was easy to use and precise. It took a few tries to get the hang of, but I was very pleased. Stores in a small space and heats up quickly.

This foam cutter is much better than I expected. OK, it is not heavy duty or industrial but it does a great job. I used it on a very heavy piece of plastic coated foam and it worked great. It was my first attempt and it turned out much better than I expected. I would have given it a perfect score but the power supply is a bit under powered for extra thick foam but for average or light duty jobs it is excellent!!!

This was purchased for creating stage props out of Styrofoam insulation. For the intended purpose it works great but I'm not sure how long it will last. Even on low voltage (around 8 volts) the shaping tools bend under mild pressure. The plastic around the shaping tip has also begun to melt. The wire cutting tool begins to glow under low voltage. I haven't tried it at full power but I can't imagine that it would last very long at high temperature. The kit does come with a spool of extra wire. I would recommend that users start at the lowest voltage and work their way up to determine the minimum heat level to cut their desired material. Another needed improvement would be a longer cord - or - a pocket clip for the regulator so that it can be clipped to a belt or pocket. As it is, the regular ends up flopping on the ground as I work. All that being said, I'm still giving this 4 stars because it has made my project drastically easier and is less than half the price of a professional-level hot wire cutter.

If I could give it less than one star I would. I bought this thinking that I could use it to make my own reptile huts. You see I rescue reptiles that people do not want any longer. I don't resell the reptiles I keep them and give them a good home. So I was thinking I can buy these styrofoam blocks 18x24 in and make my own homes for the snakes and other reptiles. I guess wrong. I used it once it made a great home for one snake 🐍. I started to make the second one and it does not cut whatsoever. I turned it up even higher it started cutting but the steel rod actually started bending because it was so hot. Don't wish the money it's junk. It's probably made in China. I wrote to the manufacture they never answered my email. I have had it too long to send it back to Amazon. Like I said don't waste your money trash

Heats quickly you go slow through thicker or more dense material with this or any cutter.

so admittedly, i don’t find myself needing a hot wire foam cutter often. some pictures and videos in the reviews are great, and it looks like the product works super well with like basic thin styrofoam. i used it to try and carve a craft pumpkin, which is, well, not basic thin styrofoam. it did the bare minimum to get the job done and it was fun to learn how to do something new though! i think the price is fair for what it is, but i would not use it to try and carve a craft pumpkin 🙃

Ordentlich gemachter Artikel. Eins sollte man allerdings beachten. Die einzelnen Werkzeuge nur mit der angegebenen Spannung (oder weniger) betreiben. Da die Werkzeuge mit der korrekten Spannung sehr schnell auf Temperatur sind, ist bei höherer Spannung vermutlich schnell was kaputt.
