Does the knife blade run into the cutting board on each pass through?** A: I had trouble with a regular bread knife and I had a new nice one so I bought an electric knife and that did the trick for me. I have made marks on the bottom board with the knife. Nothing bad that would interfere with the slicing but they are noticeable. With my bread, if I don't get close to the bottom then it seems the slices don't completely seperate at the bottom. I love the slicer and it's so easy to clean. The only thing I would change is to have all the slot sizes the same size. It would make the slicing much easier for me. If you have anymore questions, just ask and I hope I've helped you. **Q: There were no instructions for cleaning before the first use. Don't want to immerse in soapy water as some of the wood is unsealed. How do I clean?** A: I just washed mine off the first time with a wet paper towel. I use a wet towel now after each time I use it. I hold it upside down first and shake off the crumbs which come off easily. It's super easy to keep clean and I like mine. I was having trouble slicing bread without it and I'm glad I found it. **Q: Does this have a crumb catcher on the bottom?** A: No crumb catcher, but for good reason - each side has 2 slots it can go into - that gives you the choice of slicing normal width bread, or narrow width bread such as a bagel. It really is well made and gives you the choice of thin slice (in depth) or regular slice bread. **Q: My bread knife has a 9" blade. Is that long enough to work effectively and/or easily?** A: Because I'm gluten-free, I make my own bread. This slicing device really helps cut uniform slices. The widest measurement is 6-3/4", so your 9" bread blade will work. In fact, I measured my bread knife; it's 9". You should be fine. One side is very much tighter than the other - enough that it’s actually difficult to force it into the slot. Hoping that it will shave itself down with use.
