If my child is going into 1st grade, we will get him the 2nd to 3rd grade book. We do not use the K to first-grade book. These books have really helped my children prepare for the upcoming year, especially the math sections. We keep to the schedule of only one page a day (front and back). Yes, your child may not fully comprehend some stuff because it is for the upcoming year, but it is not hard for a parent to spend just about 5 minutes explaining the concept. Both my sons have used this company, and the following school year, they are not surprised by the upcoming materials, again especially the upcoming math. The book comes with star stickers to reward the kids....we never used them. The book also has outdoor activities for the kids to get "some" exercise for the day. It is nothing big, for instance, for little kids, "go outside and count the different types of trees you see from your front yard." The book primarily consists of language and math, but it also includes sections that cover geology, history, and other subjects. The non-English and math sections are mini-lessons and there are only about one per topic.
