Yes, Logan sells 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 inch v-nails, other sizes may work also.

Would this work on thicker pieces of wood such as a shadow box to display butterflies in?

Excuse me, I´m from Uruguay, South America, and my English is very basic. I think the Logan joiner could work depending on the depth of the box (or thickness of the frame). For example using a 10 mm V nail, you can´t join pieces of wood that are more than 18 mm of thikness. Maybe you could ask Logan sales office.

Does what it promises to do. I would recommend any purchaser to view the online video on Logan's website (details were included in the box) as the paper instructions were not as clear as they might be. The video, though, was excellent and had us stapling away happily in a few minutes.
