Perfect Fit for my Tubby Tabby

*by T***S on Reviewed in the United States on May 10, 2024*

Just quick initial review. Will update in early July. This is harness attempt #3. The two previous harness did not fit him. He's a stubby, stocky cat. Monkee has an especially thick, short neck cos and that was the main reason harnesses #s one and two were fails.I got out my tape measure, found him to be between a large/ extra large so went with the extra large.Quality is really good. Seems like it should be quite comfortable. I'll add whether it's a good value in my July update. It seems very escape proof for two reasons. The harness is a proper fit. The velco is like 'Super' velcro. Strong hold but it is quite loud when being opened. Skittish cats may not do well. My tub o'fur is blase about such things.

but was worried that a traditional small dog harness could be easily escaped from

*by S***L on Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2016*

I knew when I completed my move from the country to the suburbs that my three-legged cat Mr. Tub Tubs was going to have to transition from an indoor/outdoor cat, to a strictly indoor kitty. Living near a busy road with lots of cars, I didn't want to chance him having another run in with a car and losing another limb. I was worried that he would have a difficult time transitioning, but at first, he seemed to be loving the heating and air conditioning. I noticed however once spring time hit and we had the windows of the house open, he was becoming increasingly desperate to go explore outside. I started by allowing him to spend time out on our second story deck, but quickly realized that wasn't going to work in the long term because he kept trying to dive bomb off the side. I did some research on options for harnessing cats, but was worried that a traditional small dog harness could be easily escaped from. I also read many reviews on other "cat harnesses" that talked about their feline companions escaping and running off. This was definitely something I wanted to avoid considering we were in a new scary place with lots of cars, children, and new sounds he had never heard. I loved the idea of the Kitty Holster because it could be loosened and tightened with ease by the use of sturdy Velcro. I also liked the fact that it was similar to a vest, which reminded me of the thunder jackets you see at pet stores to help keep animals calm and make them feel safe. As soon as the Kitty Holster arrived, I immediately wanted to try it out. I've read horror stories about cats freezing up and refusing to walk so I wanted to see how he would do. *Please note that Mr. Tub Tubs is an extremely friendly, easy going kitty who acts more like a dog than a cat! If your cat is skiddish, this product may not work for you!* I strapped the vest on him, and he didn't really seem to care; he was more curious about the leash I attached to the ring on the back and wanted to play with it. However I yelled for him at the front door and he came sprinting; I think he knew he was going to get to go outside. We sat out on the porch for a good 20 minutes and let him explore the flower beds and newly planted bushes. We also allowed him to explore the dirt where our sod would soon be planted before it began raining. He did have a mini "freak out" when some kids came by on their scooters because they were making noise, and he wasn't real crazy about the cars, but he did pretty well considering he was in a new place, with new sounds and smells. He really can only stand the vest for about 30 minutes or so before he's ready to take it off, so we try and allow him to go outside for short amounts of time in the evening. We also occasionally take him on short car rides to the ball field trying to get him used to traveling. Overall i'm extremely happy with the quality of the vest, as well as its stability. My main concern was that the Velcro closures would hold up if he took of sprinting because he was scared, which he has, and it did! I would definitely recommend this Holster to anyone who wanted to try taking their cat outside, simply for the fact that it will keep kitty safe and secure inside in the event of a scare.

Comfortable, easy to use, and more escape proof than most H-style harnesses.

*by F***E on Reviewed in the United States on December 20, 2014*

I don't generally review products on Amazon, but I wanted to submit this one because I would have appreciated more detailed and in-depth reviews when I was doing my research for cat harnesses earlier this year.Over the past four years, I've tried as many brands of harnesses for my cat (mostly variations of H-style harnesses, including the

Come With Me Kitty Harness and Bungee Leash, Kitten/Small, Dusty Rose

with the same result: First, she runs away at the sight of the harness. After I manage to coax her into it, she crawls under the bed and refuses to come out. Finally and most importantly, once she's up and going she invariably manages to wiggle out of it, either before we're even out the door or just beyond it.I bought this holster-style harness after some research. The most important consideration for me was that it be relatively escape-proof since I was taking her on an extended camping trip which would involve cross-country flights, car rides and, of course, being outdoors. After a month and a half of almost daily use, I'd say this holds up pretty well. It's not 100% escape-proof - my cat has learned that if she walks very forcefully backwards on a locked leash she can slip out of it, but the 15-20 seconds of intense effort it takes her has usually been enough for me to catch her in the act (and it's definitely an improvement over instant escape).Pros:- More escape-proof than other harnesses.- Easily adjustable, unlike harnesses with many straps.- You can also throw it in the washer, and it air dries quickly.- My cat doesn't mind it! She doesn't run away from it the way she has with other harnesses - she stands calmly while I put it on her. I can't be sure, but I think it even calms her down a little bit when she's anxious. Aside from being more escape-proof, this is definitely the biggest plus.- Doesn't limit my cat's general mobility.Cons:- The exposed velcro would constantly get stuck on and fur up the nylon bungee leash I used before I switched to a retractable leash. It would also get her stuck on the felt of car floors, and other similar material.- I notice she eats/swallows food a little differently when she's wearing it - I think the top of the collar digs into her throat a little when she lowers her head to eat, but it doesn't seem to bother her too much.- Not 100% escape proof - I still had to keep an eye on her.Sizing:My cat is smallish at 8 lbs. I took her measurements before purchasing, and according to the sizing chart she was right in between XS and S, and I opted for XS just to be safe. It's a great size for her. I haven't tried the S on her, but if that fit her fine, that might solve the exposed velcro problem since the straps would be tighter.Other notes: I tried a bunch of leashes on this long trip, too. The winner: the

in XS. It was great to have a variable length leash for walks, and combined with a locking carabiner (and sometimes one or two

Black Diamond 18mm Nylon Runners (Assorted Colors)

), I could secure her to my belt loop, the inside of a car, a tree or a rock, with an appropriate length of leash. I wanted to find a longer retractable leash so she could chase things more easily, but this was the longest I could find for her size.
