    Titanic.

*by W***N on Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2018*

This cooler is titanic. That's not an exaggeration: it covers roughly 35% of my motherboard, and the rear fan overlaps the rear VRM heatsink, so I had to mount it higher than the front fan to compensate. Because of that it wouldn't fit in my old case with the rear fan attached. Fortunately, I had ordered a new case anyway, so it worked out fine.My previous cooler was the Wraith Spire cooler, included with my Ryzen 7 1700. It worked fine, keeping my 1700@3.6GHz under 70C while under heavy load. However, I wanted more headroom. That's where this cooler comes into the picture. I decided to go big, and I'd had a Thermalright TrueSpirit 140 before. It was an awesome cooler that allowed me to achieve significantly higher overclocks (4.9GHz on an FX8320) than I was able to with a Hyper 212 Evo. I decided to go with TR again because of that experience, and it was the right move.Maintaining the same overclock I was able to achieve a CPU temperature of just 58C after a 15-minute RealBench run. With my previous configuration I was hitting 67C. During heavy gaming this cooler doesn't break 50C. The stock cooler was regularly breaking 60C. Some of this is likely due to the new case, as well, but I'd put the bulk of it on the Macho X2. My GPU doesn't run much cooler than it did before because the cooling solution on it didn't change, and it gets significantly more air flow than it did before.Pros:- Huge. Lots of surface area to dissipate heat.- Thermals. 9C drop over the stock cooler, and I haven't started pushing my overclock again yet. I'll update this review when I do. While I may have been able to hit 4GHz on my 1700 with the stock cooler, it'd be with uncomfortably high temperatures that'd be flirting with thermal throttling. I'd also be dealing with significantly more noise.- Quiet fans. Can't hear this thing at all. Those fans are beasts and move a lot of air over that huge heatsink.- The bracket design is great, and the install was pretty easy once I removed the motherboard from the case.- The hole in the middle of the heatsink makes installing the rear screw in the bracket a breeze.- It looks awesome. It has a really tremendous presence in my case because of it's sheer size.- Included thermal compound is excellent. It includes plenty for multiple applications, too.- Included magnetic screwdriver is very nice, and I'll be using that for years to come.- Included fan splitter was nice, even though my motherboard has support for two CPU fans. It made it easier to get the cables hidden away behind the motherboard tray.- The fan cables are all sleeved very nicely, and they're long, giving you plenty to work with.Cons:- Huge. It was impossible to install this cooler with my motherboard still in my old case because it took up so much space I couldn't get the wire brackets that hold the fans in place to sit right. I ultimately decided to install the cooler when doing the transfer to the new case. That made it a lot easier. If you're doing an install in an existing case, save yourself a lot of frustration and remove the motherboard to install this beast. It's worth it.- Huge. Yes, we're revisiting this, but for another reason. The listed specs are accurate for this HSF, but only if your motherboard doesn't have a heatsink over it's VRMs. If it does, and it's high enough, you'll likely end up having to do the same thing I did: setting the rear fan a bit higher than the front fan. This doesn't affect performance, but what it does do is add a bit of height on top of it's already towering dimensions. I couldn't have fit this HSF into my old case with the rear fan because of this issue. It wasn't a big deal, though, as I already had a new case I was going to transfer everything to. I strongly recommend something wider, like the Fractal Design Meshify C, which is what I went with. It's got enough room for this beast, even with the rear fan offset for the VRM heatsink.- With everything installed you can still turn the heatsink very slightly in the bracket, as it's not perfectly snug against the heat spreader. This isn't a big deal as the thermal compound does it's job fine, and the large surface area on the bottom gives you plenty of heat transfer.Suggestions for improvement:- I like the black top on this HSF, but a plastic covering would have been a nice touch. I really like that CryoRig has started doing that, and I hope the ladies and gentlemen working at ThermalRight consider running with that idea in the future. Something simple with the "TR" logo on it would be cool. Not a con, just a suggestion. Then again, something like that would add unnecessary weight to an already heavy piece of hardware, so maybe it's for the best. All in all, I'm very happy with this CPU cooler, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking to overclock their CPU, but still keep it quiet. I know liquid is very popular these days, but it's almost always unnecessary unless you're pushing really high-end overclocks. A big air cooler from ThermalRight will give you similar performance, with less noise, for less money.

The best CPU air cooler for the money. Period. The x2 Special Edition is GOLD

*by K***S on Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 2016*

After doing a lot of research on CPU air coolers, I decided the Thermalright Macho was a great fit for me. It was almost as efficient at cooling hot CPUs as the Noctua D-15, but even quieter and about $30 cheaper! Then I saw the Macho X2 Special Edition. It included another 140mm fan on the back to perfect the already outstanding Macho Rev.B. AND it was only about $5 more than the Rev.B. Good luck finding a large HSF with TWO 140mm fans for under $60.This thing is whisper quiet. My case fans and HDD make more noise. The kit comes with a Y adapter so both fans can connect to your motherboard CPU fan pins.Cooling is excellent. Before I had a Zalman 9500, a decent yet old cooler, strapped to my AMD 1100t @3.8 GHZ. On Stress tests with the Zalman, it was dangerous to let it run too long. 60+C would come fast. Now, with the Machox2, I can't get it past low 50's on stress tests. A++ Cooling overall and in games it only gets to 45C max. Right now at "idle" it's 25C as I'm typing this.Packaging was top notch. Installation wasn't tough at all if you have any kind of assembly skills, and they provide a full size magnetic screw driver! Brackets for amd and intel are provided as well as their own thermal compound. I used Arctic silver 5 for my paste though, but I'm sure the included paste will get the job done.If I were to score it:Packaging: 10/10 Even comes with a full-sized magnetic screwdriver and thermal pasteInstallation: 9/10 (it's really big and if you have a mid-sized case, it just makes things tight)Acoustics: 10/10 Two 140mm fans spinning at 840RPM at any load are dead silentCooling: 10/10 Good luck finding a better air cooler, let alone within $20 of this beastAsthetics: 9/10 Will work with any build with its all-black fans and black top plating.OVERALL 10/10 (not an average)- Best CPU Air cooler in it's price range by far beating much more expensive alternatives while remaining utterly silent. This thing will handle just about everything but the most aggressive overclocks. Just get it, you won't regret it (unless it doesn't fit :P)

    blood on the motherboard!

*by S***R on Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2016*

this is so big and bulky it was hard to install and made other components hard as well. My hands were covered with scratches and little cuts from sharp edges trying to plug in a case fan and install memory, and I actually bled on the motherboard. It probably cools great, but it's overkill for me.
