These small birds visit my large maple tree at dusk and poop on my deck. Will this product deter their daily visits?

Birds and squirrels were destroying about 15-20% of my tomato crop (18 plants). After installing, I believe they not only kept birds away, I believe they also deterred squirrels as the daily damages almost immediately ended after setting these up at two different heights.

don't know where its made but they are really made of solid stuff, and yet are light.

Will these work in a shaded area?

Mine are in a shaded area until late afternoon, they have worked great and no bird strikes since I hung them in front of the doors.
