Bigger actually fan be better!
As a long time Kindle owner, I started with an HD6 which I still have and use all the time. (For travelling, it's size and capabilities still can't be beaten). I moved on to an HD8, which is an excellent machine and does pretty much everything I want, hard to fault really. However. When I saw the black Friday deals on this HD10, I decided that it was worth a look. I wasn't expecting it to be that much better than my "8" but, I'm delighted to say I was wrong! The screen is excellent. Both bright and clear, watching video and films is much better. Somehow, the colour and contrast seems more vivid. For reading, the extra size of the screen makes type even clearer, (especially for an old suffer like me!) and the option to have two pages in view at one time could be useful to some but personally, I'm not a fan. For gaming, there's not much difference to me, except physical size however, I suspect some games will benefit from "game mode" if they are graphics heavy. As far as sound is concerned, the built in speakers are perfectly adequate, no better or worse than my "8" . However, the stereo effect of the sound is slightly better due to the extra distance between the speakers, but really a good pair of headphones still can't be beaten. Battery-life is just what I've come to expect averaging nicely over 8hrs mixed use, I've never really had issues there. One vast improvement though is the charging. With the supplied USB/C lead, I find it charges much more quickly than earlier versions which is nice. Overall, I think this is a cracking piece of kit. Not as easily portable as my "8" and, frankly not even close to my faithful "6" ! But then I don't think they're meant to compete. The screen on the "6" is, quite honestly, the best I've had, even after 7yrs of hard work! This, is the first Kindle since then to come close to matching it. I won't be using it in the same way as my "6", and it DEFINITELY won't replace it, but I think the "8"'s going to be first reserve for home use from now on. Would I recommend this to a friend? Yes, I would AND be confident of keeping that friend. Worth the money? ABSOLUTELY and at Black Friday price you really can't to wrong! If you've reached this point in my novel, well done and thank-you for your perseverance! Great yourself to a hot beverage of your choice and but one of these. I think you may like it.

Brilliant - BUT it depends what you need it for.
This is a review for the Fire HD10. If you're looking for a proper tablet that you can use to work on and run all the apps that you are used to using in the Google Play or Apple app store, or for video / photo editing, then you should avoid any Fire tablet like the plague. It will just frustrate and disappoint you in equal amounts. The Amazon App store does have some popular apps (e.g. BBC News (no Guardian), Instagram, Twitter) but is missing the vast majority of popular apps. However, if like me, you are looking for a streaming device to on which to watch popular and legitimate streaming services such as Netflix, Prime Video, BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, My5 (and you can watch YouTube through the web browser) etc., these apps are available in the Amazon App store and it is unbeatable on quality for the price (but buy on Amazon Prime Day or a Black Friday event when it is likely to be half price). If you want to to mainly watch NOW TV best avoid it as the NOW TV app is not available on the Fire tablets despite now being available on the Firestick. Maybe in the future? I also read a lot of Kindle books and listen to Audible everyday. However, I only every listen to audible on my phone when I am out walking / running, and the screen on the HD10 is really too big to comfortably read Kindle books - I still use my very old bog standard Kindle device for that (easier to hold and no reflection from the light). However, the size and quality of the screen of the HD10 has allowed me to read some magazines, such as The Week, through the Kindle Store (or Amazon App Store) that would have been a miserable experience on a phone or smaller screen (and too unwieldy on a laptop). So to summarise, I mainly the Fire HD10 to watch streaming services and live TV (e.g. through the iPlayer / ITV Hub) when running on the treadmill or when someone else in the family is monopolising the 'big TV.' It's been brilliant to watch the Euros football on, avoiding everyone else complaining about football always being on the TV. It's a big enough screen with enough quality to really enjoy and get absorbed in watching, unlike a smaller tablet or phone. If streaming films and TV from popular and legitimate services is what you really need a tablet for I would say buy this with absolutely no hesitation but if you're looking for more than that from a tablet you will be disappointed and I wouldn't touch it with a barge poll. Oh, and only buy it on an Amazon Prime day / a Black Friday event when it is likely to be half price. Never buy a relatively expensive Amazon device on any other day.

This is what a good tablet looks like
I bought the first generation iPad. Big, clumsy, slow, and pretty much a large phone without the phone functionality. I vowed never to waste 3-400 quid on something so instantly obsolete. Recently I found myself wishing for a tablet sized screen with a simple operating system, I don't need it to try and be my phone, I have £1000 phone that does ok thank you very much. I just want to watch TV on a bigger screen and a few bits and bobs. Enter the Fire HD. Price - check, size - check, functionality - check. I took the plunge taking advantage of the Black Friday discounts and was very happy with the result. Let's be honest it's just a big screen and some apps, but that's all I want. I don't need it to be my main technology link, the centre of my tech life, I just need a simple screen that I can watch TV on and do a few bits conveniently. The device is well made, looks good, has a great screen resolution, and you can if required tweak and fettle it to suit your needs which are probably different to mine. I can't fault it. So far nothing has produced a wry smile and a shrug ahh well moment, it does everything I need it to do, but it does it easily with no immersive research session on how to make it do the most simple thing. I don't need Alexa, switched off easily no complaint. I don't need children's apps, maps, home device control, word processing, etc. etc. I just need a simple screen and a few bits. So if you need a simple tablet to compliment the tech you already own with paying the best part of 4-500 quid because its loaded with stuff you will never use this is the tablet for you. I like the fact it's linked to my amazon account, I like the fact it doesn't try to bully me into buying services, it just waves them in front of me and respects my not interested response. I'm happy with that. The price is keen, the product is good, If you need a cheap, no make that good value tablet that has the level of sophistication that makes it easy to use and painless to maintain, this is your tablet right here. Very happy, highly recommended. Apple would do well to realise there is a market for a cheap screen with apps, we have already paid a lot for all the other stuff.

It's surprisingly good
This tablet is not a powerhouse. It's still running on Android 9 from 2018 and also the same processor as the previous, 2019 version. But with the right settings and normal usage (not 150 apps running on the background, regular updates of the apps and system), it has a decent power for everything, what this targeted customer group should need. It can be even significantly faster with a deeper settings, such as those you can find for example, on YouTube channel "Useful Things", or many others and without any unnecessary apps, and processes. It's far from Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 series, or an iPad tablets. If you want to buy the highest possible technologies, superbly well built, with the cutting edge of everything, it's not for you. Obviously. It's my the second tablet to my main Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra 5g and to be honest, it's not too many times worse, how many times is cheaper, actually quite the opposite. But, Amazon Fire Tablets are playing the highest league in the low end range. It's not by the No name, third-league manufacturers, it has a great support by Amazon for years. You can also easily find an accessories like the cases or keyboards. It has a decent power for videos, movies, office stuff and the social media. Nothing less and nothing more. The battery life is excellent. The built quality is 7 of 10. Camera is not a miracle too. The settings itself isn't allowing to change everything, but in this case it's not an issue, but just a clever movement by Amazon, targeting the non-technical users and the children. The other downside for someone is just a few languages to choose from (English US, English UK, English Canada, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese Brazil, Chinese and Korean) Display is just a Full HD too, but for this price is better to sacrifice your comfort little bit, because you can find a tablet with a better, higher resolution, but by not good brands, or a very old tablets with an ancient operation system version. Design is quite obsolete generic, but for this price tag you can not get a better tablet. Bearing in mind, this is an Amazon tablet, so full of an Amazon apps and running on Amazon "system" Fire. Just Fire is nothing, but customised Android. So, if you will Google "How to install Android Play Store on Amazon Fire tablet", you can with the little effort install a standard Google Play Store and install pretty much everything as usual on an Android device. Quite more complicated is unistallling of the Amazon apps, so if you will Google "How to uninstall the Amazon apps on Fire tablet" it's possible too. I will highly recommend to "unlock" The Developer options by tapping seven times at Serial number in About Fire Tablet menu. And there, be careful, if you don't know, what are you doing, you can damage your device. This is working on every Android device. And there find the Drawing section. There is Window Animation Scale, Transition Animation Scale and Animation Duration Scale. All of them set up to .05x It will make your tablet much faster. Overall, it's not a perfect device in the technological term. But, it's an excellent device for the price. Just consider to buy a high speed micro SD card, because the standard memory is not enough for today's needs. Yes, I can highly recommend this tablet.

Amazing Tablet
Amazon tablets are great, really fast (if you don't overload them tons of useless apps that slow it down because they're all running in the background) & they're really great value for money Vs other Android tablets. Their appstore has most mainstream apps but does lack some others official Google apps like the official Android version of YouTube for example! (Seriously I don't know why Amazon doesn't just offer all the Google play store apps as well as their own games and stuff, they would dominate the table market if they did!! You can do the exact opposite an buy an Android tablet or phone and download every Amazon app for it from the play store!! I just don't get why Amazon sticks to their own appstore because some companies who make Android and iOS versions just can't be bothered to make an Amazon version as well because Amazon tablets are just modified Android tablets!!) I got mine on sale for £100 which made it a no brainer & a case that acts as a stand, so when I'm not using it I put it on the shelf and turn on "Show Mode" which turns it into a fantastic electronic picture frame. I'd wanted an e-pic the same size which could show videos & the good ones are also about £100 or more, so in the end I got up with the best of all worlds (a great tablet which is also a great e-pic frame & it can also show my security cameras footage). And btw there is a really easy and safe way to get Google play store installed on the tablet and then you can download all the apps the Amazon appstore doesn't have (another reason to get this tablet). Just wait for a sale like I did to get one of the best tablets Android tablets on the market for a fraction of the price of a like an equivalent Samsung one! The speakers are great, the picture quality is great, and the battery life is great (just be careful about to many useless apps running in the background to get the best battery life out of it.

Fire HD 10 tablet 2021
Used for surfing, emails, writing letters, watching Sky, BT Sport, Amazon films on Prime Video, ordering on Amazon (shared with mobile phone). I liked this because it links nicely with my Alexa smart home and my Prime Account. Please note thatthis latest model is more 4x 3 replacing it's elongated model. No problem with this. I purchased this one during a Dec Black Friday sale to replace my previous Amazon 10 tablet which I'd dropped (what am I like) on its corner shattering the screen glass (started to craze). Normal dropping did no affect it. I haven't tried it on this one, I'm glad to say. My network is BT and I have an Oppo ( because I'm into photog). Unless you have an aversion to everything Amazon, I recommend this phone. I have always had Amazon tablets except my first was a Bush. Between me and my wife havingg tablets, this is now my 5th in about 10 years. Easy to set up and to transfer data from older models. Downloading is quick and efficient Recommend download security software. I use one that was preloaded and this works OK. Ensure you get a separate stick to load in the tablet of at least 32Mb to store high capacity data like photos. Not a fan of the camera on this model as definition can be grainy in low light and find my mobile handier and with. more HD and UHD options. Good photoshoot and store facility. Being Amazon encourages one to store with them. In this day and age I think I've done it right. Look out for deals on Amazon or black Fridays for good deals. Recommend go for the one 'without the adverts'. This one only available in black. This tablet 'with' comes in the main assorted colours. I use easily for my Ocado shopping orders as I am shielding. GenerallI find it easy to operate. I watch films from Netflix, Amazon Prime, Sky and the new revamped BBC i-player. Does not come with a stand. I use a wooden slot stand I picked up for £2 when I was last in IKEA which does for me! If you are deciding between the 7 or 10", I say go for the 10. I always take my tablet on holiday signing onto different networks. I do find it frustrating that a file is sometimes not in the form to print and has to be convert it to a pdf. I can't print straight from Amazon photo always. This new model is supposed to have a facility for this when you first open the photo. A black menu pops down but you've gotta be quick to press! Have a look at it and see what you think. My Amazon tablets have never let me down. But keep your files on the cloud (you know in one of those anonymous warehouses in Slough or Keynes) if you can, to free up more space.

Crazy value for money!
I have owned every iPad, including the iPad Pro and then the newer M1 iPad Pro 12.9. My kids and wife have iPads. After deciding to stop conforming to Apple like a sheep and looking at what I was really getting for my money - I sold my Macbook, iPhone and iPad Pro. In its place I picked up other far cheaper yet superior similar items and this little gem. For less than £100 - this Fire HD10 has a bright screen, vivid colours, a decent sound, I rarely want it louder but if I do I connect it to my Anker sound bar. It is easy to make some specific updates and run the play store, but even before that I had nearly all the apps I needed it for. It is fast, handles multi tasking well, great screen, good sound, build quality - well the screen is far tougher than the iPads that I can attest to! My daughter had no clue it was not an iPad in its case, its not bulky, and paired with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, works well if I need to send a few emails and not go into the office and open up the laptop etc. I added a large memory card which I could probably never fill but having that option - unlike Apple - was nice to have. I am completely converted to Fire tablets going forward - I have an Echo 5 and Ring doorbell, also the wireless CCTV - soon enough I will have the whole house smart home ready by Alexa! Overall - unbeatable for the price - comparable to my iPad pro, blows the other androids used out of the water which were 5-6 times the prices. Now at £79.99 in the black Friday sale get it brought - find a reason and get it done :) You wont regret it!

5* but only if you buy it on promotion
Honestly worth every penny if you buy it on promotion. At full price it's probably 3 and a half. I purchased this for my 6 year old at half price so I've based the review on that. It's lightweight and well built. Feels a lot better quality than similar priced chinese tablets on here. Screen quality is outstanding. For less than £60 you're not going to get any better in a new device. By comparison it would cost more for a replacement iPad screen than it would to buy this tablet again. Speakers are loud enough to fill her room and alexa sounds very clear. Performance is excellent. For web browsing and streaming you shouldn't have any problems. Fire OS however feels and looks outdated like the android version it's based on. It runs FireOS so you're technically limited to amazon's app store. It's definitely behind the Apple and Google stores in terms of content but you can find all the major apps. You do however have the option to sideload apps on it. I found Kids mode was too restrictive for her. It's also quite long to configure. Other companies handle this a lot better. Battery life is great. Surviving a 5hr road trip with a combination of games and streaming use. Netlfix runs PIP mode too allowing multitasking. Charging however is quite slow, even slower if the tablet is in use too. Overall Amazon have created an outstanding product. It's pretty much unrivalled at it's promotional price point. And with a few tweaks it can do pretty much everything.
