CDs of the early music of Johnny Cash. If you are like me, and don't know where to begin in acquiring any music on Johnny Cash, you might as well begin here. The music is some of his earliest, and if you ask me, best. Most of his "Greatest Hits" are here: "Stripes Around My Shoulder," a live version of "A Boy Named Sue," "I Walk the Line," et al. The liner notes are not so bad, either. They encapsulate Cash's career succinctly and comprehensively - something which may be used for those not that all too familiar with Cash's work. One of the songs sounds like it is from a broadcast from radio during the 1950s-60s, and the album gives a good "feel" of what it must have been like back then. Yes, this album is a transport to a different time an place. A hoot!What makes this album/compilation unusual, also, are some bonus tracks by June Carter on CD 3 of her solo career before she (It appears) even met Johnny Cash. Have you ever heard the track "No Swallerin' Place"? If this isn't the "hillbilly sound," I don't know what is. It's a wonderful piece of Americana seemingly long lost. Only the Brits could recognize pure American gold, as this album apparently was complied and produced in England.There apparently is a lot of Cash memorabilia on the market. This three CD set is a good place to start. The people over there who have made this album tend to give Cash a good and fresh treatment, and they have made a fine compilation of some of his "Greatest Hits." Alright, I will confess, the price got me, too. I could afford this one, without spending too much money on something for which I would have no idea of what I would have been purchasing.Good value for the money!
