Is the material good?

Not the original hard rubber which did last for over 20 years for us -- no kidding! We still have 2 in use that was purchased in the 1990s and the golden brand name haven't fade so far. The current ones are made of plastic w/brand name in silver. Don't expect that they will last that long, but they are still comfortable to use on your scalp and won't snap on naturally curl hair. Hope this info helps!
