My first Rubbermaid pitcher just gave up the ghost a couple of weeks ago. I used it to make ice tea with boiling water, steep the bags, then throw it into a refrigerator until cold. I never felt like it gave off any gasses or odd smells. It never warped. That first one lasted several years doing this torture test day in and day out! A gallon of ice tea lasts me half a week or so. It is an actual Rubbermaid brand pitcher and proved its mettle. It finally sprung a small leak after years of abuse. I had to toss it out and get a replacement. I heat up water in a kettle to boiling (or near boiling), then pour it directly into the plastic pitcher (over a sink, thinking this will be the time the bottom melts out)! It did not melt the bottom out of it after all that time. When it died I was pretty sad. It was a fun and interesting experiment. They changed the design from my earlier one. But seems to be just as tough. I make ice tea like always and the new one handles it the same. I’ll buy another after I bust this one. They clean up easy and are rugged. I can’t give it any greater praise than that.
