It has been tested along rivers and beaches on the east coast, west coast, Mexico and Hawaii. If the sand is very loose like a wind blown sand dune, the grip will be limited. In most situations where the sand is slightly compacted, they work great! **Q: As this does not come with a carrying pouch, are there an suggestions on what to use? I don't want to sharp ends poking through anything in transit.** A: It comes with a plastic tube to store it in and prevents it from poking things. **Q: How many come in the pack?** A: 1 **Q: Can a smaller dog that weighs 16 lbs use this?
