**Q: How does this pioneer plx-1000 compare to the audio-technica at-lp-1240?**
A: I've opened both up.  They are essentially the same.  People saying the pioneer is better are confusing the AT 1240 with the cheaper 120 or just regurgitating stuff they read someplace.

**Q: What headshell can I buy as a replacement?**
A: The bearings are extremely easy to adjust and are designed to be slightly tightened. A miniature screwdriver and a needle nose pliers are all that is needed. loosen the outer ring and then tighten the internal screw 1 or 2 degrees. They should not be tight, just tight enough to not jiggle. I own 8 technic 1200 turntables a few Vestax turntables and a few belt drive audiophile belt drive turntables. All the dj style turntables need to have bearings adjusted periodically. Completly Normal. Standard Headshells are readily available. Audiophile headshells are also made.

**Q: Where is this product manufactured?**
A: Manufactured in China. Designed in Japan. Hope it helps

**Q: Does this have a built-in preamp?**
A: Most DJ professional turntables will not have a preamp.  Those are inside of our DJ mixers.  It’s easy enough to get a preamp or a mixer if you plan on ripping sound files.

I've had many quality turntables, a mint condition Linn LP12 & a Kenwood 7010 to name a few. External build quality is not up to the standard of those decks with some plastic finishes, but it weighs a ton and the function of the unit itself is perfect, importantly the sound quality is superb. I would rate the audio quality at least on par with the other 2 tables previously listed so it is a heavy hitter. At the price, I think it's cost for the resulting audio reproduction is amazing and I would highly recommend to the fussy golden eared ones amongst us. Whether they could lower themselves to listen to a modern direct drive is another issue but the back ground is super quiet, sound staging amazing, clarity is stellar and the bass-taught, powerful & clean, definitely more bottom end bravado than what I'm accustomed too. The deck was a breeze to set up, I would highly recommend this great value turntable.
