Tall Ergonomic Drafting Chair by Harwick

This is the second identical chair I have purchased. The First one lasted me 7 years with no problems. The chair holds big people. I weigh 225 and am 6 feet tall. It is made with heavy duty parts and is easy to build with no tools. I NEVER LEAVE REVIEWS. Theis is a great shop or drafting chair. See my pic. It also looks great!

They are legit comfy and super tall. Never had such a comfortable chair at this height and we've been in here for like 20 years on tall chairs six days a week. But they have some weak spots, namely the height piston fails early on and the replacements don't last either, but that's an easy fix, as long as you want it to stay at one height all you gotta do is, as my photo shows, buy a piece of PVC pipe and split it longways and pop it over the piston (cut at the height you want obv) and it will never go down again. If later you want to lower it you just pop that pvc off and cut it shorter, heck you could cut it into segments and add/remove segments as desired. (It's the split white pvc pipe around the silver upper piston in my photo for anyone confused. ) The other big thing is that the armrests also eventually stop staying up so we just put the blue C clamps under them like my second photo shows. Beyond that the footrest can slip but it also can be kept in place with a clamp from below. And a couple other things. I bet this sounds like a lot of failures and rigging but if you knew how hard it was to find an actually comfortable chair this tall (or maybe you do) you'd understand that they're worth it. Also they have solid customer support if you ever need warranty or to order spare parts. Like my title said we've kept them for close to six years because they are actually comfortable for 50+ hours a weeks at max height.

I had this chair for almost 5 years, but tonight one of the plastic legs on the bottom cracked as I got off it. I feel like a chair should last more than 5 years. The weight limit for the chair is 250 lbs, but I only weigh 180. Other than that, I found that the seat wouldn't always keep its height, and the footrest would gradually slip down as well. In the end I cut a length of plastic pipe and hose clamped it to the bottom of the cylinder for the footrest to rest upon to stop it slipping down. Also as someone else mentioned, it is possible to clip the pressure release for the cylinder with your heel that results in the seat plunging down while your feet are trapped underneath.

I've had this chair for a few weeks now, and overall it more than meets my expectations. Solid, comfortable, and tall. I would have rated it 5-stars, but there are 2 flaws in my opinion, one of which is much more important than the other. The less-important flaw: Often when I lean back there is a loud "clunking," "clacking" sometimes "breaking" sound that seems to come from the connection of the chair back to the main mechanism under the seat; some friction point gives way suddenly. Nothing is actually breaking, and the chair back doesn't jolt back alarmingly, but the sound is startling and annoying and disturbs me others in my office. The other flaw is that the lever to release the pressure that holds the chair up is located in the front-most position in the cluster of levers, and it is way too easy to kick it accidentally with your heel and have the chair plunge down with you on it. Here's how it always happens to me: One of the many positions I assume in this chair is with both toes resting on the ring-footrest, which I have set all the way down at the bottom of the column for maximum stability. When, for a change, I cross my ankles and prop up my left ankle with just my right toe on the footrest, my left heel bumps up into that lever and the chair plummets down, twisting and crushing my trapped ankles and right toes into the footrest. If I weighed more, or didn't react quickly enough, or if I hit the lever as I was plunking down into the chair with more force, it could be much more serious. As it is, I am trying to train myself not to make that one dangerous move, but meanwhile I've had this happen 6-7 times so far. If I had the ability I might buy a hack saw and cut the "paddle" off the lever to shorten it and get it out of the way of my heal, and then pad the end of the lever a little, but I can't make that happen at this time so I'm kind of stuck. Perhaps after this small design change I would buy another of these chairs for my other desk. Meanwhile, will the company I bought this one from send a TaskRabbit type of person here to modify this and protect me from possible injury? I'll ask, and let you know what happens... Two days later: They kept saying that my proposed solution of shortening the dangerously-positioned, hair-trigger, chair-dropping lever by cutting off the "paddle" end so my foot wouldn't hit it when I crossed my ankles, would void the warranty and also make that lever inoperable. They may void my warranty because I made their chair less dangerous, but I have proved to myself that a shortened, paddle-less lever is indeed still easy to use, and that the shorter length means a far smaller chance of accidental injury caused by the chair's design flaw. I'd have been much happier if they had just refunded enough money so I could buy a cheap hacksaw for this modification, but no such luck. The up side: my own company's customer service/relations policies are much better in comparison, so I feel good about that.

My husband purchased this chair for me to use at our counter height desk. It took nearly a month to arrive--which was the limit of the return period. It looks like a nice quality chair, but sits "hard". However, worse yet, it will NOT hold the height setting. I get it set just right and then, at some point during the day while I am working, it just goes back down to the ground. I could usually move it back up and continue working, but it was annoying. Now, it will not hold the height at all! I raise it up to the appropriate height and it lowers back to the ground. I raise it up, sit down, and repeat. I have contacted the company (nicely) to see if there is a part I could replace. But I received no response. If you need a chair at a higher than desk height, this will not work. If you need a desk height chair, there are more comfortable ones available. Do not waste your money on this purchase!

Tallest chair I was able to find and it's very comfortable. Sturdy chair that hasn't caused any issues. Really easy to put together too, just pay attention.

This chair is really nice. It was easy to assemble, the padding and mechanisms are good quality. I would rate this chair Five stairs if the arms could swing back or down out of the way. I use the arms for some things but for other times they are in the way and the only way to not have them in my way is to remove them by the screws from underneath and that is not practical. None-the-less, this is a really great chair and has solved my back issues, I wish I could find one just like it for a standard desk height.

When this chair arrived at our house I couldn't wait to assemble it. I was impressed not only at the ease of assembly but also at the obvious sturdiness of design. I am a big tall man and this chair really handles the load. The only con was that I couldn't get my wife off of it,so I ordered a second one.
