A Sign of Affection 1 Review: This is really interesting. I really like it. - This is such a wonderful look at the day-to-day life of a college girl who happens to be deaf. Yuki is just adorable. So cute, & such a sweet girl. Itsuomi is quite handsome, & he seems like a really nice guy. I really enjoyed reading this. I had a deaf friend when I was a child. He could read lips, just like Yuki. I learned quickly to always face him when talking to him, & to say my words slowly, steadily, & with full pronunciations. No slang or slurred words! I always felt bad for him. He didn't have very many friends. Most of the other kids in the neighborhood either thought he was strange, or they made fun of him. I got in quite a numberof fights with other boys who made fun of my friend. It used to make me so mad! He was actually a really cool kid. It was sad no one wanted to give him a chance. If his family hadn't moved to NYC (from Spokane, Washington), I'm sure I'd still be his friend. So I can somewhat understand the trials that Yukingoes through. Not everyone is as patient & under standing as Itsuomi or her friend Rin. Her childhood friend is quite overprotective of Yuki. It's obvious he is holding a candle for her. I wonder how she feels about that? Or does she even know? I look forward to reading the next volume of this series! Review: Opens on the wrong (left) side but that's correct, not a defect. - I'm not sure how to rate this really, a teen granddaughter requested 1 & 2 in this series. I loved the story line. When the book came it was in pristine condition. But next I noticed it opened backwards. I was stunned. What on earth? Manufactured wrong? Defective? Send it back? I checked with my daughter and she confirmed these kinds of books open on the left not the right. Is this some aberrant New Age/Post Modern thing? Do Japanese read their books backwards?
