Supposedly it has to "charge up" - does it do that all the time? What's the trickle load?** A: The specification sheet doesn't say, so being a nice guy I measured it using a high end Fluke multimeter. The vampire load current is 680 microamps and that probably cost a few cents per decade. The standby circuits are probably CMOS so you can basically consider it as no load in standby. Also I hear a click when the main load turns on and off so I think the unit is using a relay instead of sold-state switching which I actually prefer because it works with so many loads. My unit powers both a fan and LED light with no problems. Hope this helps. **Q: I want to control a gas fire place in a rental condo. I like the max 4 hr setting but I dont like the on/off overide That defeats the timer control.** A: Mike, If you don't want to be able to override the 4 hr max you might be out of luck. Pressing the big button during any timed session will turn off the power to the circuit. However, pressing the Big button (and not a timed one) will result in the power remaining on for the duration of the last time selected. I just went and played with mine and it seems that it will not remain on longer than the greatest time available; or 4 hrs in this case. Hope this helps. **Q: How does the manual over ride work if I want the timer to not be used? Can it be set as the default?** A: The manual override does two things. First it manually turns the power off. Second it automatically turns the power on to the last used preset time. For instance if your like the default for 15 minutes, you can select the 15 minute button. Then this comes the default for the manual button until another preset time is chosen, and then that time comes the default. You can choose a preset time, turn it off manually (immediately) and that sets the default for the next time you use it. It never manually turns it on so it stays on until it is turned off, it always uses one of the preset times. this is only an issue if you want it to run more than an hour (the maximum setting). FYI: I like this switch and would purchase it again. I use it for a ceiling heater to warm up the bathroom in the winter. **Q: Can this timer be use for a bathroom heater?** A: It is only a 6 amp timer.
