## Description

Download, the brainchild of the legendary cEvin key and Phil Western, seamlessly and stunningly blends atmospherics, IDM, and industrial experimentations into a stunning, cohesive piece of work with the album FiXeR. Swirling, deeply layered synths and rhythms flow into manipulated samples, low-tech glitch bursts, and show once again why Key and Western have earned their status as electronic music pioneers. Originally released part of the Subconscious Vault 2 subscription series, FiXeR is now proudly reissued on Metropolis Records.

This rare album contains four of my favorite tracks by Download, namely "Uhm", "Neuron Proper", "Starving", and "Hoorse".  Honorable mention for "Zass Pie", "Sorcear", and "Eruption".Krakatau, Parts 1-3 is an interesting 8+ minute track.  The first two parts are quite experimental, almost like cuts from their 1995 debut album 'Furnace', while Part 3 turns ambient, like a lost segment from the 1997 album 'III'.Overall, FiXeR fits in nicely with much of Download's post-2000 work (Effector, III Steps Forward, and Lingam).  So if you like this period of Download's career, then by all means track down a copy of this CD.  Nice Dali-esque cover art on the latest pressing too.

This is the new technophilic sound of Download: beat focused and more diverse in synthetic sounds, but also cleanly produced.  I love every song on the album with a special mention of the song Uhm which is possibly the best track by Download ever.If you like this definitely check out the other collaboration of Cevin Key and Phil Western, PlatEAU.
