Great SAMSUNG SSD
I recently decided to upgrade my computer's storage and went with a Samsung SSD, and I couldn’t be happier with my choice. The installation was a breeze, and I was up and running within no time. The performance is fantastic—booting up my system is lightning-fast, and opening applications feels almost instant. I also noticed a significant improvement in file transfer speeds, which has made my workflow so much smoother. Plus, I appreciate how quiet it runs; it’s definitely a nice change from the old hard drive I had. Overall, if you’re looking for a reliable and speedy SSD, I highly recommend giving the Samsung SSD a try. It’s been a solid investment for me!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rock-Solid Reliability — Still the Benchmark for Everyday SSDs
I’ve used quite a few SSDs over the years — some fast on paper, some that fail six months later — but the Samsung 870 EVO continues to be the gold standard for anyone who values speed, reliability, and peace of mind. Installation was effortless. It was instantly recognized by my PC, and Samsung’s Magician software made the setup and cloning process straightforward — even if you’re not especially tech-savvy. Within half an hour, I had my old drive fully cloned and running silently on the new SSD. Performance-wise, it’s everything you’d expect from the EVO line: quick boots, instant app launches, and fast transfers that don’t dip even under heavy loads. What stands out most is the consistency — no random slowdowns, no stutters, no fuss. It just works, quietly and efficiently. The 1TB capacity hits a nice sweet spot — plenty of space for games, media, and OS, without the eye-watering price of larger NVMe drives. And while this is a SATA SSD (not NVMe), the real-world difference for most people is minimal unless you’re constantly transferring huge 4K files. Build quality feels premium, too — solid casing, no flex, and you can tell it’s made to last. I’ve had older EVOs running for years in other machines without a single hiccup, and that’s saying something. If I had to find one flaw, it’s that the included documentation could be clearer about cloning steps for beginners — but Samsung’s software makes up for it. After several weeks of daily use, the verdict’s simple: this is the drive you buy when you want performance you can forget about — because it just works flawlessly. Would I recommend it? Without hesitation. Whether you’re upgrading a laptop, reviving an older desktop, or just need reliable storage, the 870 EVO remains one of the smartest and most dependable choices on the market. (Reviewed after setup, data transfer, and several weeks of daily use — not a first-impression review.) 💾

REVIEW: "Samsung SSD 870 EVO, 2 TB"
SSD arrived timeously and as described. It's clearly a very good SSD that performs flawlessly once one's HDD info. is successfully transferred to this new Samsung SSD using Samsung's "Magician" software. Some words of caution: it's often very difficult to use Samsung's software to facilitate data transfer from your old HDD to Samsung's SSD. There are many comments / problems around this on-line, so do your homework prior to installing this new SSD; no need to rush this ... do it properly. Once the HDD data is successfully transferred to this new SSD, it's pure magic. Note, the caution above is usually only experienced when using Samsung's cloning software. One apparently does not experience these difficulties when using other cloning software such as Macrium Reflect, etc. I specifically chose, however, to use the Samsung SSD cloning software, eventually succeeding, which has proved to be the right thing to do as this extensively-functional Magician software from Samsung is excellent for managing one's new Samsung SSD. Try to stick with using Samsung's Magician software, for closing and for on-going monitoring, etc. of one's new SSD. In closing, once the new SSD is successfully in place, make sure that "Trim" is activated by Microsoft's "Optimise Drives" defragging system (original software; all Microsoft software have it onboard as standard). Whilst it SHOULD be activated automatically, check anyway by bringing up Microsoft's "Optimise Drives" and checking to see whether "Scheduled Optimisation" is turned on, i.e. the box it ticked. Note that using Samsung's original "Magician" software to monitor this new Samsung SSD does also have a trimming function built in which additionally serves to make sure the new SSD is trimmed continuously. However, per the above explanation, also make sure that trimming is also activated via Microsoft "Optimise Drives" software. Good luck! Once you install your new SSD you won't look back ... it's chalk and cheese in speed, efficiency, etc.! Worth the time / effort!

4tb Samsung sata drive that doesn't have a Q in the name to destroy it's credibility
(One Year Update) (Here we are a year later and as you can see even with 3.3x of the total amount of gigs written of the 4tb sata and it's still at 100% drive heath, I'm still keeping a 4* rather than 5* because of two reasons Number 1: M.2 PCIE4.0 drives are just over the price of this drive and I mean if it's only £40 more why wouldn't you want 10x the speed of read and writes, Number 2: This 4tb 870 evo sata had a fault at the start where the bios saw the drive but windows disk manager did not, In the end I used a usb 3.1 to sata cable to format the drive so it could be detected on windows 11, Even then it would work as a steam or os drive but in samsung magician it wouldn't show up still, I did try alot of things and all didn't work, Seeming as it's main purpose was a steam game drive I wasn't a massive problem, Now this is how I fixed that issue on Windows 11 click the start button, Type in control panel, Click on control panel, Click on System and security, Click on Manage Storage Spaces, Then you will see this 4tb 870 evo there, You will see the drive as a Letter such as E, Then click delete,Then Click delete storage space, Click delete pool on the right side, Once that's done, Now right click on the start menu, Click on Disk Management, You should see the 4tb 870 Evo as on allocated space now right click to create new volume to the full size of the 4tb drive, That solved it for me to actually show up in Samsung Magician, So a year later it works fine, It has 100% drive heath even though I put 33tb of stuff on it in one year, Samsung is a good brand for ssd drives M.2 or sata drives, But like all things you buy you might get a defective unit so your experience may be alot different to my own, Still only 4* out of 5* because this drive should of been easy to see on windows out of the box and I shouldn't have had to use a 2.5inch sata to usb3.1 data cable to get it working 1 year ago, I think for the price it is good if you have an old pc or laptop that only has sata ports and no m.2 slots, However now In July 2024 M.2 of the 4tb size are alot faster if your workflow needs it, I still believe most people don't need that speed because they are not moving 4k 120fps files across, In games still I've noticed zero difference in load times between my 4tb firecuda 530 PCIE4.0 M.2 drive, Fallout 4 from 2015 was a problem with the Firecuda 530 4tb as door load times were over a minute, With the 870evo it was 5 seconds, With the Fallout 4 2024 next generation update, Both the M.2 and the Sata ssd have the same speeds for doors, If you are using Adobe creative cloud the best drive you can get is the fastest one you have, So if it's £30 to £60 more get an M.2 such as a samsung 990 pro as it will save you more time, As your time is a resource that can never be recovered, Get what drive is best for you, If it's abit more get an M.2, I still would recommend this 870 evo because it's still at 100% life after 1 year of constant use, Again get what drive is best for you for what you need, But in July 2024 the prices are so close to PCIE4.0 m.2 of the same 4tb size, Anyway hope this update after a year helps someone) Let's get the obvious out of the way, It's a Sata drive, So up to 560mbs Read and 530mbs Write, If you want it ro be fastest you could buy two and used it as a software Raid, Then you get double the speed, But why when you could just buy a 4tb PCIE3.0 m.2 that's 6x the speed for the same price for a different manufacturer? Because simply old laptops/ Pc's and last generation consoles don't have an M.2 slot so you can't use them and sata is the only option, On the drive itself the 4tb 870 evo is excellent for a sata drive, It has dram inside 4gb infact, That's like 2008 levels of ram in a top end pc of that time, Why 4* rather than 5* you might ask?, Actually plugging the drive in my pc only to run disk manager to format it and well... it could only format it to 2tb rather that 4tb but the remaining 2tb that was an not yet allocated couldn't be merged into the volume, The only solution I had was to remove the 870 evo plug in my sata to usb 3.1 cable I've had laying about for the past year and formatting as an external drive, That worked then once that was done I then put it back in my pc to format once again, I know I said at the start of this review that it's just a sata drive, But for most people that's all you would ever need, I have a 4tb firecuda 530 PCIE4.0 as my boot drive and this 4tb 870 evo is no where near the speed of that, But in games it's identical for load times, With certain games that are out in 2023 with the Direct storage api and now with NVIDIA RTX IO that will be out with rachet & clank rift apart on pc very soon ssd storage will be used to it's full potential, Much like the near instant load times on the Playstation 5, With direct storage and rtx io what's the difference between 1 second with a PCIE4.0 ssd compared to 1.4 seconds to a sata ssd for game load times?, You can't even blink your eyes at 0.3 seconds, Anyway for a summary, Positive + 5 years of warranty + It doesn't use QLC memory cells unlike the 870qvo +78 GB cache size so you get full transfer speeds ( Most 4k video files are less than that) Negative = it's a sata drive so if you do alot of 4k video editing at 60fps or 120fps then a PCIE4.0 would be better as the faster the drive you have the better really, - My only personal issue of a brand new 4tb 870 evo not being able to format to the full capacity of the drive unless I used a cable to use it as an external drive to format it, If I didn't already have that cable in my draw it would of been a problem, Final summary, I personal use this 4tb 870 evo as a steam game storage and pc games pass storage, Why? Because some mad drivers in my area who like to crash into virgin media fiber cabinets and I'm left with no Internet for 10+ days and I don't want to use my precious mobile data for game downloads because mobile data companies hate it when you use youe phone as a hotspot because apparently 600gb of 4/5g data is now somehow unlimited, And well we all know games are big now like 100gb + some are even 200gb, If you can pick up a 4tb ssd for a decent price it's worth it, I wouldn't worry at all about games that use direct storage in the future because the difference between PCIE4 or 5 or even Sata ssd will be less that a 2 seconds because the graphics card in your PC will be doing the decompression of the data,

Excellent! Very Quick
I have an HP EliteBook 840 that originally came with a small 128GB SSD. Back in November, I bought a 1TB Crucial MX500 SSD as an upgrade - as it was in an Amazon "Lightning" deal. While the initial signs were good, it suddenly slowed down and Windows 10 would scan for (and fix) disk errors on every boot. I suspect this was due to the diabolical Crucial SSD 'Storage Executive' software and its 'Momentum Cache' feature. Anyway, the disk is en route back to Amazon and I temporarily popped in an HDD. Rather than purchasing based on price, I have now opted for a quality Samsung SSD - and this new 870 EVO 1TB model looked good. Indeed, for me, it was the correct choice! I used a caddy and Paradigm Hard Disk Manager 17 to clone the current HDD (I had no need of the cloning software available from Samsung). I popped it into laptop and away we went with no issues. I downloaded and installed Samsung Magician 6.3 - and enabled "Over Provisioning". As such, the laptop in normal operation really flies! I have shown the Samsung benchmark results and also the "Smart" information - confirming a new SSD with no errors. With all of the 'external' buffering and caching (in Samsung Magician) turned off, CrystalDiskMark confirms the SSD performs at the maximum capacity of a SATA-III interface for both reads and writes - within the limitations of its own cache. Even with very large files, 'raw' transfer speeds (~360Mbps) are excellent for a SSD of this type. The device remains relatively cool even during intensive use. Usually it sits at about 32degC and doesn't ever exceed 40. So, I have no complaints there! I opted for this SSD over the cheaper Samsung 870 QVO device and think I made the correct decision - given the consistent operating characteristics and life expectancy, the extra few pounds were well worth it! I have used a Samsung 840 EVO in another laptop error free for years. I'm hoping this one will be as good. Fingers crossed 🤞 A 5 year warranty gives added confidence. As a side note. The latest Samsung Magician software package is an excellent utility - and is compatible with all of the more advanced features of this excellent SSD. Unlike some other reviewers, my SSD was sold and shipped by Amazon in the UK - so I incurred no extra charges.
