What is the weight you can use on each hook? Will heavy coats be a problem?

I bought this 2 years ago and mounted it to wallboard with a good fastener. We use it every day to hang mostly coats and jackets. It finally broke last night when we hung several winter coats and a couple of jackets. The two holes in the back are two metal strips each with a hole. This strips are then attached to the back of the hanger each with two small screws. In this case the failure occured when the small screws pulled out of the back of the hanger on one side. I don't think it can be fixed. I know, I probably put too much weight on it but it was much less than 20 pounds. I'd guess somewhere around 15 pounds. To reiterate, The connection to the wall did not fail, the hanger itself failed.

Would the hooks be appropriate for hanging keys as well?

This set of hooks is designed to take a greater weight and stick hooks are quite thick and a standard key ring of 25mm diameter does not fit but the larger ring sizes do. What is the distance between the mounting holes?

Not sure but approximately 10-12 inches. Bought this for a gift for my daughter. It does come with anchors, screws and a paper ruler for hanging if you're worried about wall studs.
