Review: Great Book - Just back in the US from visiting England and had to include the James Herriot museum in Thirsk. Spoke with Julian and Ann Norton. This book and those by Julian are great. But, be sure to read the entire series by "James Herriot", too. Review: Great Shape - Item was packaged well and came quickly.

Fans of Yorkshire Vet will love this book!
We begin with an introduction to the Yorkshire Show in Harrogate, a big agricultural event that’s been ongoing for over 150 years. Mr. Wright mentioned Amanda Owen, The Yorkshire Shepherdess, who attended and was a guest speaker. I’m a fan of her books as well. What attracted me to the book was the setting and author being a veterinarian in the Dales. Peter Wright was a Vet trainee with Alf Wight and Donald Sinclair (James Herriot and Siegfried Farnon) something I didn’t know until I started reading this book. He also has a television show! The Yorkshire Vet is a program I was unaware of until I read this book and yes, it seems I am living under a rock some days when I discover an old show. The observations and comparisons to present day and what life was like decades ago was also very interesting to me. Fishing is a pastime our author and his brother enjoyed very much. The observation that many of the today’s youth don’t have that opportunity as they are living in cities and are so used to iPhone, Xboxes and that electronic distractions. I found the story about finding centuries old coins fascinating. A pair of brothers were digging up a piece of their farmland, leveling it off when they discovered a broken ceramic jug and coins. It’s a great story and fabulous discovery. After these old treasures were dug up they ended up in a museum. This is after a court decision. If I am ever visiting near York’s Castle Museum I will certainly want to view the display of coins and old papers. Much thanks to Netgalley for the advanced copy of this book. Publication date is January 17, 2020. If you enjoy reading about veterinarians, Yorkshire or loved the James Herriot stories you will like this book.

TBH I didn't read it - I got it for my dad
He likes it. From the thumbnail I thought Jeremy Clarkson had finally bogged off back to Yorkshire. Being an Oxfordshire native that development would be most welcome. It's not that I hate the chap, quite the contrary I very much enjoy his antics. TBH I'm not sure how the other two have a career with out him, since I was six years old I wanted to visit Japan then I saw 'Our Man in Japan' which convinced me it must be the most boring place outside of Scunthorpe. I'd just much rather see Jeremy's antics inflicted upon his Northern brethren, although some how I think even Mr Clarkson realises he'd be on the receiving end of more than stern talking too from a middle class Oxfordshire pensioners if he went back up there.

A wonderful trip through Yorkshire
What a delightful and enjoyable book from Peter Wright, best known as The Yorkshire Vet from the TV series. His deep love of his County of Yorkshire is evident in every page as he takes us on a journey through some of his favourite places. Along the way we meet some fascinating people that Peter meets on this journey. He gives us lots of interesting historical information about some of the places he visits like the ‘cursed room’ in Newburgh Priory where legend has it the remains of Oliver Cromwell are interred in the attic. It’s nostalgic and heartwarming, packed full of anecdotes of the animals and people who have made a lasting impression on him. He writes in a warm conversational style so, pull up your chair, grab a cup of tea, Yorkshire Tea of course, and settle down to be thoroughly entertained. It’s another winner.
