Each single ceramic microsphere is so small that it looks to the naked eye as if it is a single grain of flour, (slightly thicker than a human hair). When mixed into paint the painted surface dries to a tightly packed layer of the hard, hollow "microspheres", (Hy-Tech's exclusive CVM, ceramic vacuum matrix technology.) The tightly packed film reflects and dissipates heat by minimizing the path for the transfer of heat. We recommend that surfaces have at LEAST two coats of paint containing ceramics to get results. This is based on the small size of the ceramics and the need to have then distributed evenly on a surface. More coats will produce better results. The "5 gallon package" will treat 5 gallons of paint, etc. Review: People mis-interpret the benefits of this product - Therma cells work great for some applications but many people seem to miss-interpret the benefits of using it. I used it on my school bus conversion's interior walls and did some testing on it. I used Rust-Oleum bedliner and did a thick two-coat application for reference. I would highly recommend a thicker coating like a bedliner for use with this product. I found that my walls were noticeably cooler after applying the coating. My 1st control was an un painted area which was too hot to hold a hand to after sitting in the sun all day, 2nd control was bed liner with no Therma Cells and then I had the area I applied it to. The second area was about 4 degrees cooler than the first but still noticeably hot to the touch. The Therma Cell area was only another 2 degrees cooler than the second, but it was not warm to the touch. My conclusion is that it seems like Thermacells are very effective at lowering the HEAT CAPACITY of a coated material, but not necessarily it's actual temperature. This means that thermacells will make the coated area a poor condutor of heat to the air around it, but won't necessarily work wonders on the actual temperature of the material itself. I'd definitely purchase this again as it seemed to cut down radient heat and touch-surface's (perceived, not really actual) temperatures noticeably. The paint will have to be the product that determines the seal/permeability . This product only improves sound blocking,thermal transfer, abrasion resistance and things of that nature. You will want an epoxy or elastomeric type of paint rated for submersion to waterproof something . Boat bottom paint ,elastomeric roof paint ,something along those lines . Be sure to consider if it will need to be flexible . If flexibility is required then epoxy or bottom paint is not appropriate and you will be forced to use some sort of elastomeric type of coating. **Q: Can i mix this with drywall mud? Or in with stucco mix?** A: Hello. Absolutely yes this can be mixed with these, or any type of product into which a powder can be added. With thicker products such as drywall mud, undercoating, etc, we recommend adding 3/4 of the normal amount to begin with. This is to avoid making the product too thick. More ceramics can always be added to keep a workable viscosity of the material you are using. **Q: I have a propane fired blacksmiths forge insulated with ceramic insulation board that reaches 2500f. Will tbe stuff work at that temperature?** A: I would bet that if made into a slurry consistency with a sodium silicate solution (waterglass) that this could make a decent performing coating with great insulation properties. **Q: I have a propane fridge with bad insulation. Would painting the inside walls of the fridge with this product help?** A: If mixed into the proper type of paint for that temperature application, it would work. Multiple coats would have to be applied to get enough ceramics on the surface. Put it on the nose of the fifth wheel and it reduced the temp a very noticeable amount. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Cooled down room and lowered electric bill. *by A***R on September 17, 2016* My husband used this to paint the roof over an extension of our home that is not well insulated and gets extremely hot. He applied an even layer over the roof and then waited a day and applied a second coat. I really didn't expect it to work but we could tell the room was cooler after using this. We've always used a window ac unit in that room and our electricity bill went down quite a bit.
